Your Character's Cantr lover

Postby Doug R. » Wed May 20, 2009 6:05 pm

I'm just wondering if anyone out there has ever developed an emotional attachment to their character's lover? I don't mean if your character has, I mean if YOU have. If so, did you know who each other were (the players), and was it weird?

Well that depends how you define an emotional attachment... I'd say for any character who was a long-term friend of one of mine and who RPed well (I wouldn't become friends with someone who RPed badly) that I did become attached to them to an extent. It always does affect me when characters who are close to mine die.

Possibly one step further than your suggesting. Mourning a character's lost friend, sure, but would you find yourself missing that character when you're logged off (and they're still alive)? Do you find yourself highly irritated or distraught when that character isn't active and you want them to be (and not in a practical, "I need this guy to give me the damn key way," an emotional, "I need this character, period", way).

And I should rephrase: When I said that player has an emotional attachment to another's character, I didn't necessarily mean a direct emotional attachment, it could also mean an emotional attachment through your character (i.e. you start empathizing with your character, having your moods mimic your character in relation to this character, etc.)

Perhaps I just made things more unclear...

Thats why I encourage myself to play Cantr but its yet to happen. Because I'm emotionally detached as it is, what you are describing would be rather difficult for me.

I've made good friends with people because of in character relationship, which is good, but not much more.

I'm rather attached to some of my characters, and I noticed I was missing something when some of the people my character interacted with were not awake or dead.

I'll agree with that.I've been playing this character for almost 6 years now. A few characters had been around nearly half his life. It is sorta like a friend dying after knowing them 3 years.

I miss a few characters but none of them are or were lovers of one of my characters. Just trusted friends (and one secret crush :P ).

Guilty as charged.

Happened to me twice; once knowing the player, once not.

Hrm, not in the sense Doug means, I think.
My way was more like, 'Damn, why can't someone really be that awesome'. *shrugs* I'm pretty detached from my chars, I think. Although, I do have moments of weakness when something gets to me. *nods*

In relation to the first, where you knew the player, did things get weird then?
