For the beginning I propose raising the water level in cantr ocean and local earthquakes.
This way inshore lands would be flooded and some big islands - continents changed into archipelagoes (some raw materials can also change).
Everything in the sequence of a few days,if you have active characters or having good friends they escaped or they were taken, far from water or on the contrary (the heavy-duty boat will endure wave) but it what (who) staying in the flooded areas will disappear forever.
Of course unexpectedly nobody would prepare earlier.

If a reset will occur again, it would certainly be great to have such a thing.
But, of course, everyone should die. This could be really awesome and give some great roleplaying possibilities.
But it shouldn't go on for just a few days. I think it should start with fishes dissapearing, completely, from every place. Then other resources near water dissapear, and people go to the hills. The places near water dissapear.
The water level rises more and more, and resources in the hills start to dissapear as well. Cantrian religions will then probably start saying the end of the world is near and everything.
Once all resources in hills dissapeared, everyone will move to the forests and mountains. And the same thing happens in the forests.
Now all that are left alive will have to try to survive in the mountains.
It is now that only big water vehicles will not be destroyed in storms.
And of course the mountains are FULL of animals. Most animals escaped to there as well. So also the dangerous ones. People stay inside of houses and only go outside to hunt.
It's not weird to see places with over 50 people now. And people die a lot. Couples get seperated and clans fall apart. The animals die. And only those with food will get to survive a little longer.
Thieves will try to steal everything that's left to survive, and not only them.
Also normal people will steal food and murder people.
Slowly the human race will become extinct as well.
What about that?

More drastic than my idea solution but for them more drastically all the better.
Now is more and more boringly, number of players and the characters is falling and at the same time more and more great dispersion.
Flood will reduce regions fit to settle and it will discourage existence of big cities on coast what dispersing population will make smaller.
Birth rate will increase and many characters then again will have what to do.

Barring a complete failure of the server and the backups there won't be a reset. When it happened before it erased a few days only, since they had to revert to the latest backup.
A large part of the charm of this game, imo, is the history of the world.

I wasn't talking about an accident. There might be some time when new features require a reset. (Because making it work might need all character info to be edited.)
And the history is indeed, really nice.
