Name on uniforms, stitched logo etc.

Postby mikejacobs14 » Wed Sep 10, 2008 9:28 am

Hmm, we can change titles of buildings now using various painting tools and chiseling tools but what about clothes?

I mean think about it, you have an army but how do you recognize which one is in your army. If we add the ability to stitch words onto an uniform, for example- Luffy Pirates. You see ten men come into a town all wearing same clothes with their shirt saying "Luffy Pirates" in bright pink colour.

*Note: If this is a duplicate, you may kill the creator, the moderator and the Cantrians. (the good, the bad and the ugly reference :p)*

The game engine can't support it. The only things that can be dynamicly named are locations (towns, buildings, and vehicles) and characters. There is no infrastructure to support dynamic naming of anything else.

There is the coin press, but that's a static name on a coin. Perhaps something similar could be made, like a sewing machine, where you could stitch a name onto clothes, but the game engine would require that you make a separate project for every article of clothing in the game that someone would want to put a name on. It's just too bulky, and it could never be changed.

You can add that next to the name of each character. 8)

OK, but if you see somebody for the first time, you don't know his name and from which army is.

You should know your troops before sending them to any confrontation, I guess.

I've been in wars sometimes and the less important thing in them are how your soldiers are dressed. I rather have them well armed and trained than dressed to kill. :)

What if you aren't a soldier? If you are a merchant or peasant? You see some armed crew and who are they? Malevolent pirates or regular army of your kingdom? Enemies or friends? If they will attack it will be too late to know ;).

Extra customization: good

The suggestion is fine. We can't implement it at the moment but I can't imagine any reason we would explicitly not want this feature.

I wrote that treating clothes like coins would be bulky, not impossible. It could probably be adapted from the coin press code with little fuss., and the name tag would be permanent on the clothing.

Why wouldn't it work? We have envelope seals that have your char's name on it and transfer it to an envelope. Couldn't the same basic coding be applied to clothing.

Example:
You see a man in his twenties. He seems stronger than average. He is wearing:

A blue one-piece suit bearing the name ANDREW on the left breast pocket.
Eagles may soar, but weasels don't get sucked in to jet engines... :P

If it gets implemented, be sure to also implement a means of unraveling it in case people decide it's funny to have clothes that say shit or fuck or pussy. Although there might be communities which allow that, I'm assuming most would find it inappropriate. Also it shouldn't say "name" because that limits the usage. Maybe if it would just add ". It has DESC_STR embroidered on it with MATERIAL yarn" and DESC_STR could range from "the name `Andrew`" to "an image of a charging lion" to what ever. Although then we get to the problem of revealing the language group of the producer.
