Playing music into a radio

Postby joo » Wed Mar 26, 2008 6:33 pm

My suggestion is simple: characters should have the option to play musical intruments into radio transmitters.

This would help to emulate real-life radio stations, and would probably lighten the humming workload of certain rather profane individuals in the Klojt area.

On possible way of doing this would be to have a "Play into radio" button next to instruments.

*coughs*... For/Against.

I think this is a good idea, in theory. I don't quite know how often someone would hang around a radio with the purpose of playing music into it, simply for the pleasure of other listeners. Unless someone implements a record-deck of sorts, which could play music automatically somehow, without input from characters...

I don't know. It's a nice idea, but not worth implementing yet.

Wouldn't it be easier to send "*you hear some soft music from a flute*" or something similar? I know, technically you wouldn't need the flute to send this message, but I guess everyone who bothers to rp this kind of radio broadcast would make sure he has the right instrument too.

I agree with what Piscator said- mostly because I find it very bland to just hit the music button and then say it's a bard-type character. I tend to RP out my music.

I've successfully used Piscator's method several times in the past. You can have multiple people singing through a radio in harmony as well, if you're creative.

I thought about RPing the music, but it makes it much more believable if you know that someone is playing music. I just feel that this is one of the types of features that the game would be better off with: one that helps to emulate real societies.

Bear in mind that you can't even identify a voice on the radio, whether it's male or female, even. Thus music doesn't seem very logical. I have assumed the radios are the very simple early rl ones, (let's face it, most are simply a few wires,) and the transmissions are in some sort of Cantrian morse which they all understand innately.
