Machines/tools to attract animals

Postby SwimFan » Mon Sep 24, 2007 5:55 pm

It's been said domestication is in the works. This may be, or maybe it'll never happen. Who knows? I don't really care.

Here's another idea though:

Maybe make like, salt licks in locations to encourage more deer. Or bird feeders for hawks? They'd essentially serve as a sort of beacon for wild, undomesticated critters. Perfect for mountainous regions and places that have been hunted out.
I don't actually swim all that often

This sounds like a good idea although I don't know how easy or difficult it would be to implement. Likewise how about negative attractions like scarecrows, shiny pieces of metal and those noisy rackets people use to scare foxes with?

We discussed implementing some player usable thingie that would boost animal populations, and while the general consensus was that it was a good idea, there's no short-term plan for implementation. It was also decided that such a mechanism should require work and not be static (i.e. it should be a project). Animals with low populations currently experience a doubling of their reproduction rate without any player intervention.

The project concept included non-violent ways to make animals flee in addition to the population boosting mechanism.
