Jamming Machines

Postby kroner » Fri Dec 19, 2003 10:14 pm

You can jam machines by creating rediculously large projects and adding a bit of resources. I've seen it done. But I was wondering whether this is really legal. I mean, it sort of seems like abusing the game system, like messages in building project titles.

It's not really jamming the machine but creating a huge project that would take either a long time to finish or more resources then actually exist in game. I don't personally have a problem with it but I can't speak for others.

It is really jamming the machine. I mean obviously there's not like a "jam machine" button, but if you start a project larger than is realistically possible to complete then that machine is out of commision forever. It just struck me as the sort of thing the PD would constantly be manually repairing, like dead bodies on bikes or obsene building names. Is there an official opinion on whether it's legal on not?

Actually yes i would consider it a problem if one can be banned for html in notes knocking 2 million times on a door then yes locking up a machine with a crazy project would be on my list of things one should not be doing
Somehow you strayed and lost your way,
and now there'll be no time to play,
no time for joy,
no time for friends
- not even time to make amends.
You are too naïve if you do believe life is innocent laughter and fun.

lol. One cannot be banned for HTML on notes or knocking. LOL. Do you all think we ban lots of people? :p I think Thomas said there have been like...5 bans in the history of the PD. That's for severly breaking the CR. Now, accounts being locked for a period of time is another thing.

ANYWHO. I don't know if I'd consider it a breach. But you might want to email programming@cantr.net and ask if maybe there could be some sorta limit to how many, for example, potatoes you can ask to be harvested by a harvesting machine so that things like that don't happen.

I know why some-one might be annoyed at "jamming machines" *cough* kwor *cough*.. hmm excuse me.. lol. Well i think it is kinda stupid, no one would live long enough, say if the project was for 1,000,000 grams of steel, unless there was a whole island on the project, about 300-1000 people?

But that would still not be enough, there should be a limit on things, like that, e.g. Smelt limit - 10,000. I am not sure about any other figures for machines. so i wouldn't know. But i think there should be something done about it, but dont "unblock" any of the currently "jammed" machines, that would make one of my chars life hell!! :(
