What do you think about the modern vehicles in Cantr?

I love them! Weee!

They are fine, but need restrictions like fuel.

I feel they are out of place. I think they should be removed, with some form of compensation for the owners of current modern vehicles or letting them be some forgotten relic that can't be constructed.

I hate them! Stupid cars and vans! Aaaargh! I can't stand them....my eyes, my eyes!

Machine created to make gathering and sorting cotton easier. It's a civil war time period thing.

Until you have the resources and the tools or have seen one, you shouldn't be able to know how to build one. So common things like hammers and trowels would still be known by most people because we would have seen them used and built but rare things like cars would not be able to build unless we already have the materials on us and the tools or we see one or see one being built. But such a thing would have to wait for Cantr II 2.0, I would imagine.

Yep, that's what i would like too, well, from a certain tech level on, like indeed, simple tools... Just did'nt want to push it too far, that's something for a completely new topic.

There's possibly already a similar topic in Suggestions if you look hard enough, and care to resurrect it

A cotton gin seperates the cottonseed from the short staple cotton fiber. And a cotton gin was developed and widely used before the America Civil War period. It was invented by Eli Whitney (1765-1823), an American, in 1793. Taking the seeds out of the actual cotton part is very laborous work and before the cotton gin it was the one reason why cotton was not a cash crop or widely used as clothing. After the cotton gin it became a cash crop and because the Southern climate allowed for cotton to grow rather nicely it was widely grown in the South. The cash crop in the South before cotton was either sugar or tobacco.

I think it's best if we let that little bit of history slip a little, else we have no easy way of processing raw cotton into fibres, but I didn't realise what a gin was used for until now. I thought it was to do with the kind of gin you drink with tonic water

I like the level of technology where it is and I think it could get even more advanced and more primitive. Remember, this is not Earth so things can develop differently then they did here.

I really, really hope more advanced stuff won't be implemented...I have a hard time dealing with the cars...if a guy comes by robbing the people of a small medieval town with a rocket launcher I think I would lose my interest in Cantr. :(

It is bad enough that you can do a drive-bye with crossbows...

I really like the game as it is, and vehicles as they are, with the addition of fuel. I feel it's best to have it start off with the basics, and let everything develop in game. That's the challenge. And once we get to a more modern setting, it will be fun to compare it to real life.

I think more advanced stuff will be implemented but require programming to do so and there are other things on the top of the priority list like clothes etc... I don't think it will be that bad. From my knowledge there are no rocket launchers being implemented. So you won't have to worry about that yet.

And when I think of Cantr, I think of neither stone, middle, or modern age. It is whatever it is. Someplaces will be stuck in the stone age. Others in a middle age and still more will advanced to technologies beyond the modern age. That should be possible. Eventually there may be guns and you might see battles where one side has guns and the other side has swords. It happened in our day of age. I like it the way it is.

I think the idea of having to re-fuel a car at regular intervals is a good one. I had suggested it before. I would also like to see horse drawn vehicles that would be able to travel over unimproved paths giving them an advantage over modern vehicles in this regard.

Yes, I agree that cars should have fuel. It can be done because we do have oil. It would have to be so that oil can be made into gasoline. It would make the ability of using cars a lot of harder and would only be allowed by even more advanced civilizations.

This is a combination idea based on what people have said, so perhaps you should only be able to build advanced items cars or whatever if you have the right materials, tools and a prequisite to whatever it is your trying to make, so you can't go building cars until you can make carrages for horses and you can't make carrages till you the right tools and so on until you reach a basic level of items and tools such as the stone hammer and trowel.

So I'm in favour of keeping cars but adding in a fuel requirement and also temporarily suspending them from being built until technology catches up, as for explaing the existense of cars already *shrugs* thats up to the owner really.

I don't think you have to have had to build a carriage in order to build a car. I like the having the resources and tools idea as well as if the character has seen a hammer then most likely he could replicate what he saw.

I don't have any problem with cars in game. I would like to see fuel added and maybe require more tools or machines to make a car. In fact, I think there should be more of a tech tree, requiring a lot of high price items to build then next one in line. Then there maybe should be more intermediate vehicles, like carraiges (although I think bikes might suffice) since cars would be harder to make. This all also links to item deterioration because with a larger tech tree people rely more on their machines. Well developed areas become permanently able to churn out high tech items at low cost unless fixing and replacing machines becomes a factor.
DOOM!
