Care to cite it?

Edit: For clarification, I mean a Biblical citation.

Well, that would be a tall order, since there is absolutely no Biblical justification of Dec. 25 as the date of the birth. In fact, it's pretty clear from the textual evidence that winter was about the one time of year it couldn't possibly be (one interesting theory is that Dec 25 was actually the date of his incarnation inside Mary.) That being said, Dec. 25 was set in the fourth century as the date, about the same time as Jan. 6 was set as Epiphany. Indeed, there is actually a difference of opinion about what the Epiphany commemorates. The visit from the Magi? His Baptism by John? The Wedding at Cana? All three?

In any case, the celebration of this season for twelve days has been around for well over a millennium, and continues to be celebrated around the world that way for more than a billion people.

All I know for sure is every form of Church is not the way faith should be organized or the way it should inspire.

Quote of the day...and words to live by. Put it on a tee shirt, people would wear it.

Oeeh marketing possibilities!

I hate the next morning on the back. The rest on the front. It could be a conversation starter at bars. Haha

As long as the back doesn't say, "I love going to Las Vegas, getting drunk, and getting married."

I was under the impression that Dec. 25th was a pagan holiday (Yule?) that the Christians co-opted to get easy converts.

My comment to Snick was regarding the 12 day period, not specific dates. After all, if they can't even get the year of Christ's birth right (3 AD they now think), how can they get the day? And Snick, if I had a citation, I'd give it to you.

This should really be moved to the "religions" thread, but I know, Doug. My point was that to ask for a Biblical citation for a 12 day period was pointless, since it, like the date of Xmas itself, was a creation of the early church. If you celebrate one, but not the other, Snickie, that's up to you, of course, and a matter of faith, but don't start putting "Biblical justification" up as a yardstick upon which to measure stuff, or you might wind up disappointed. Slippery slope.

Even though I'm a woman, and not a lesbian, I would rock it when I go out. :) Drum up some business for you over here. I know a few people that would buy them.

Happy New Years' (Eve?) to those of you in later timezones!

A few thoughts:

1) Minecraft is slowly but surely consuming my life.

2) Why is it that I can go to bed at 9 pm and wake up at 6 am during breaks, but never when I actually need to (i.e., school)?

3) Was reading David Levithan's Boy Meet Boy and am horribly, terribly struck by the similarities between a certain ex-boyfriend and a character in Cantr. I can understand some overlap, but this is really just uncanny. What in the world???

Anyone ever wake up suddenly in the middle of the night with a creepy feeling that something bad has happened to someone you know? Tonight's one of those nights for me. I'm too weirded out to go back to sleep and probably will be until my fiance makes it home safe from work.

Such a dreadful feeling, and slow to get rid of some times. Have a warm drink, what about a mate?

@Henkie, I ABSOLUTELY want one of those tees!

Greg turned out to be fine and I eventually fell back to sleep. That stuff just weirds me out though. Twice I've dreamt that people have died and then they have not too long later in the same way that I dreamt they died. I mean it might be coincidence, but I've really not known that many people who have died in the first place. And I guess it's be kind of cool if I was clairvoyant or whatever, but what's the point if I can't change the things I see, or even know which ones are actually going to happen and which ones aren't. In high school I used to tear myself up trying to somehow figure out whether I dreamed those people were going to die because they were going to die, or if they died because I dreamed they were going to die. *shrugs* At least I'm past that. I didn't -choose- to dream those things.

I've dreamed multiple times of my own death, each a different way. If this thing is true and applies to me, I'm in for a very painful and devastating death, and based on how long ago I dreamed each of those dreams, it's going to happen really soon.
