Sorry, too lazy to see if this is already in this thread, but is there any chance of having a weapon that uses iron but not steel?
At the moment, there is a bone spear, which uses just wood and bone.
If I have iron, I can't make anything better than a bone spear.
Only when I get steel do I then have the choice of umpteen different things.
For example, there's a bone spear and a steel spear, but no iron spear. The only weapon of any use that uses iron is the iron-shod billy club, and that's even weaker than a bone spear!
Seems strange that if I reach the iron age, I can't make anything better than I could in the stone age.

And when you reach the Iron Age, you can make steel.... because it just requires the same things iron does plus the iron you made... kind of silly to stop at just iron at that point since so many tools require steel or bronze. Though I'm not against more iron weapons that would be a bit stronger than bone or wood, if only for variety's sake.

Since we already have a few Native American weapons, I thought I would add my favorite one: the "Macuahuitl". Read about the description at wikipedia.
It features a long, straight piece of wood, fashioned with a hilt. Aztecs would break apart Obsidian rock and, using primitive glue, would paste and embed the shards along the length of the wooden edge. This weapon was truly devastating to it's enemies. Read the account of one of Hernan Cortez's men when encountering natives armed with Macuahuitls:
I will have died and gone to heaven if this weapon was implemented into Cantr.
This has been suggested in another forum, here, but I just wanted to suggest it here. [/quote]

Pedro de Moron, was a very good horseman, and as he charged with three other horsemen into the ranks of the enemy the Indians seized hold of his lance and he was not able to drag it away, and others gave him cuts with their broadswords, and wounded him badly, and then they slashed at the mare, and cut her head off at the neck so that it hung by the skin, and she fell dead.
I will have died and gone to heaven if this weapon was implemented into Cantr.

Like Cantr, only better:

How about a variaty of new weapons Like. . .
1. Katana(already suggested but maybe istead of two types of steel it can have iron, steel and leather)
2. Ninja Throwing Star (150 grams of iron 2 days to build15-20 attack not able to be seen the throwing star that is)
3. Chain mace (400 steel and chain if we have it also and wood for the handle)
4. war tomahawk (200 grams of iron 400 grams of wood 5 grams of feathers-optional)
Protection
Chain mail (2000 grams of iron 10 days 20% defence)
Lamellar (1500 grams of iron 200 grams of string 7 days to build 22% defence

Naturally they wouldn't be called ninja throwing stars, just steel throwing stars. But you would only need one and you could fetch it back super fast without the enemy having any chance to retaliate - since there are no projectiles in Cantr. It would be different if arrows were implemented. And I don't think there will ever be armor implemented, mainly because the violence system is borked and this is not supposed to be a battle game. Edit: and one of the weapons already includes a small chain so there's your chain mace. It's called a flail. Mace is the one with the head solidly attached.

Well technicaly the "flail" is called a Holy water sprinkler, and we already have a apache throwing star, so I simply said a Ninja Throwing star, Let me get this straight a flail is a wooden or metal handle attached to a chain which it sometimes attached to a oval shaped piece of metal or wood or it is a round sphere of metal or wood attached to metal spikes (Ouch!)
New suggestion:
Cat o'nine tails, i know there is a whip but hey it is a very british punishment weapon (used in the royal navy in the 1800's) wood for the handle, leather or thin rope.
5 attack (Get ready unobediant sailors!)
Simple but effective.

Hell, with new whips and people proposing new tortures we will have soon to plan implementing a suffering bar
hey, it isn't bad at all.
I think that if the combat sistem was complete, there would be no problems because it would balance itself.People don't want this because they fear the cantrian world would split in a time of total war, maybe that's right, but would be much easier to defend ourselves from attackers with armour, fortifications and all these stuff.

There are already too many weapons for a game that's not supposed to be a battle game. Many of the swords are too similar, only separated by the name. I think it would be enough if we had a two-handed sword, short sword, bastards sword, rapier, sabre and scimitar. Then at least you could imagine what they look like instead of having to go to wikipedia only to hear that the same name has been used in different cultures to describe three totally different kinds of swords.
RD is (or was) working on balancing existing weapons but I think that has come to a halt because no one wants any attack item to lose their potential, at least if one of their own characters has made one. And in Cantr people tend to make the strongest weapon they can, no matter what it costs (well, except for the crossbow), even if the difference was just by a few points. The difference caused by sword damage values is lesser than variation between different characters due to their fighting skill and strength.
This is not the topic for complaining about the fighting system so I should dig that one up.

I agree with Seko. There are too many weapons, but a lot of them are never made. Everybody makes battle axes.
I think a good improvement in RP would be decrease work efficiency when holding weapons. It´s senseless when you arrive in a city that was always in peace, and even people collecting grapes, smoking meat, forging iron, are holding battle axes. Not even in Sparta this used to happen.
It's a bit offtopic, but it's important. Maybe the weight people carry could affect his efficiency, because in real world, it indeed decrease your speed.
Well, let's see.
