Who is asking for a complete redesign? The issue is mostly balancing. A single very strong individual can drag an apparently weaker one, especially one not carrying much, back and forth through umpteen locked doors without apparently picking up any tiredness whatsoever. There is little or no combat left in the game that does not center around this kind of dragging. People have been telling you this for more than a year now.

I find it ironic that there was just one weak character of mine left from the big purge that I undertook a year ago, mainly because in those days I took hunting skill to be some kind of indicator of strength or combat skill, and this character suffered exactly the kind of fate I'd predicted. (ie single-handedly dragged indoors where she eventually died). Not only her , but in effect her entire crew, including 3 well-shielded people with 2 average weapons and one very good one, and 2 crowbars, where they joined numerous other people totalling eventually 20 or so). All of them imprisoned by one single person.

I find it even more comical that this same character of mine was witness you friend Jur's asinine character "Goram Yoful" proving to the whole MRU in an especially pathetic fashion what everyone else who plays the game already knows: No experienced player can be persuaded to have their characters attack any kind of major town. Such conflict cannot realistically occur, and so it doesn't.

What is really strange is that the game worked much better a year ago, but you then went through a phase which had as a direct result the driving from the game of most of the major strategically-minded players.

As many keep pointing out, it's your game. So if you want the "doll's tea party effect", so be it. I tend to suspect now that that's exactly what you do want. But it is then misleading to advertise the result as a society simulator.

And if it isn't a society simulator, then I cannot continue carrying out the experiments I'd hoped to, and so there is little point in my spending all this time.

Judging from in game experiments, WEIGHT of the dragged person has NO effect on how easy it is to drag them, maybe because even a full load is only a quarter of a person's weight and all people weight the same.

I agree that dragging should add tiredness.

Sad thing in general, this is.

Well. That has absolutely nothing to do with graphics... :? Good to see we haven't lost our gift of topic relevancy here on the Cantr forums. :)

Having had the chance to look at them, I can see no problem with the graphics and as someone has said it might prevent someone having to break out of cantr and go google something.... Credit to the guy that spent time and effort doing something usefull for the game.

Since they can now be switched off I guess the debate is over...

If anyone says taking over a town is very easy, it is a lie. We have all tried and all wound up dead sooner or later. (Pirates, Rouge Guards, Leaders with Harmful Intent.) Well I guess it depends where you live and who is there to mess up your plans..

I think the pictures look fine. As a graphic artist the 255 green pixel boarders are a bit distracting, I'm pretty sure you are using them as your transparency color cus I had the same problem with using magenta for transparent in a game I worked on back in highschool. Depending on what production stage you are adding them, if you are able to save as PNG you can fix those. JPG likes to leave them, and GIF will do it sometimes also depending on your compresser. Also make sure that you aren't anti-alising when you add the b/g it will blur it into the image doing the same thing no matter how you save it. If none of this works and you are intersted in getting rid of them, then PM me with the exact prossess you are using and I might be able to help.

Also the bone knife was commented on specifically as an imagination recker. It it isn't that it looks bad, it actually looks too good :D like it should be a dagger. Good pic though. All the others I've looked are pretty appropriate.

I'd like to see more tools with pics personally, if you need help just ask. I have access to some decent 3-d software and a few years experence to suport it. And I deffinatly sympathise with the not wanting to always do the big stuff. Bravo for staying active.

Also: I think they support good RP more than hurt it, for example, if you dont know what exactly a bodkin is (I'm guessing most ppl dont) you might feel tempted to hit someone with it, then you realize when you see it, that you should much more likely use it in a poking/stabing action. Heck first few times I saw a server in the tools list, I was wondering why this game had servers and not consoles   . Having an idea of what you have is important even if you chose to RP it as looking different.
#004400 is my favorite color.

Makes me think of Missy's post against people picking pineapples from trees.

I know it's off topic, but I do want to reply to this ;) ... I certainly do not want the "doll's tea party effect" and never wanted this. I'm glad that people who like that can also find a place in Cantr, but I've always wanted more conflict than there is now. It's not that I deny the problem or do not acknowledge it, it is that I do not really see how to solve it. I know it's solvable, and you might well be right that it is actually easy to solve, but it's the kind of thing I'm not very good at, this balancing, and thinking about it makes me tired before I start :).

I was only saying that changing a thing on the interface is far simpler than this, requires less thinking etc. So if I have a few hours off, want to do something for Cantr, that's what I do. Changing the combat system requires more time, and much more resilience afterwards on the forums, when the half that was silent beforehand suddenly start screaming once a suggestion is implemented.

I would really like the system to be slightly re-balanced so that there is more opportunity for violence and military strategy in Cantr again, but I am not the person who is going to do this. I need help for that from existing programmers and RD people ...

I do certainly agree that this is a long overdue change.

I dont think the pictures are bad, but i don't think they add anything to the game either.

Maybe only to explain what certain items are, but that could also be solved with better translation or description.
Also you only see them when clicking on an item.

What would improve the game is a bigger graphical map with buildings on it, resources, items and people. But that would require a game redesign.

Pictures might not change the game-play, but they definetly DO add to the game. Any "eye-candy" is always a bonus when implemented into a game.

There shouldn't be discussion here.
Put it plainly:
These purists would want the map gone.. and the little picture of your area. And all the buttons, so it's just links and words to click.

So..
Nakranoth's "evil" character says:
"Thief! That's terrible! *shakes his head* That would hurt people's feeling if I did that."

I can not take part now in discussion - it is very occupied. Very soon I will necessarily express the opinion.

In almost 5 years, I have neve read anywhere of a purist movement to remove the map or pretty forest pictures.

You condemn this secret non-graphical purist group, yet you subscribe to the censorship clan and believe things should not be discussed. For shame!
