"To Spawn"... Is it bad form/RP?

General out-of-character discussion among players of Cantr II.

Moderators: Players Department, Public Relations Department

Would you / do you use the term "spawn", in character?

Yes, definitely. It is a word, just like any other, and can be used freely, IC.

I use it, sometimes. I would prefer others not to use it, too often.

No, because it is bad form, and others should refrain from using it, unless the absolutely HAVE to.

I never use the term "spawn", because it is really bad role-play. If you can't speak without using it, don't speak at all.

Everyone uses the word spawn in the English lands. It's the accepted turn.

To say "born" is considered bad RP, because born means born, as in carried during pregnancy, by a mother, of which there are none in Cantr.

Therefore born is out, and has been replaced by spawned, which makes more sense then born.

I use both born and spawn and don't see much difference, everyone knows what you are talking about, that's what language is for, to comunicate, and if they can understand it's fine.
The following statement is not true.

Myself, I use "spawn" and it's variations.
But I don't have a problem with people who say "born".
I once saw an event where a newspawn claimed to be a specific someone from a specific island, when spawning in a land-locked position... that one took some flack and was quickly brought into the fold, so to say.
Personally, my chars aren't all-knowing, so they have no idea where a newspawn is from, since they dion't know them until they introduce themselves... and so a spawn could say that he arrived in town at a moment when everyone was asleep, or slipped in unnoticed with everything going on in town - as long as they play the part consistently (and don't try to add too big a history to their newspawn chars), other chars should not have any trouble with that.
Someone who first says that they are from elsewhere, then a day later change their name and say that they spawned right there, that's a bit of a stretch.
