So what time Eastern is 0:00 time in Cantr? My clock seems to be stuck on 2 hours. And I wasn't aware that I had set minutes in time. Blah.

Hello and welcome Ahoyhoy,

My a bit af advice will be, just turn of the computer, and hit hard with a "bone hammer" nooo, what did i say " a bone hammer" ok not important, find something hard a nd hit the computer. Than never use the word CANTR, again.

OK Joking. But be careful, this game is sooo addictive, that it may ruin all your life, after having 15 chars, as others say, you may do what ever Jos wants to add you 15 mins more  You may see all your friends walking around as "a man in his twenties" :!:

About your questions:

If i see
*you see a man in his twenties asking questions out of character*

I generally talk to him in private, and explain that nobody will answer his questions, here in game, it is better to ask in the forums, or just pm me!

And for those who ask IC quesitons in the forum you generally face with the reality that you have to ask it in game.

So you may try this link as weel, it has a lot of valuable information.

http://www.cantr.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4883

good luck

PS: Hope we meet IC also.

*BUZZ* Wrong. There are roleplay forums all over the place, that are probably a better place than Cantr. Cantr is about simulating society, and over time, you learn how events can change how life is lead in some towns, differently than other towns and cultures. THAT is what makes Cantr unique. It's a society simulator.

*BUZZ* Wrong. Role play is about playing a role. That role has to exist by definition in the framework of some kind of society, although small scale games may only simulate a very small section of the over-all society in which they're based. All games that focus on roleplay show how that society (or section of society) develops, and how events can change how life is lead in some places differently than others. All games that focus on roleplay are therefore society simulators. A society simulator that requires "in character" choices necessarily works by the method of roleplay (as opposed to statistical modelling things which are a different kettle of fish all together). Granted, there are roleplay forums, but they are not dedicated internet games, they are "tabletop" games transported to the medium of forums. Cantr is the only internet RPG (or MMORPG, or however you might classify it) that I am aware of that is a dedicated computer based program where the roleplay is important and the stats are largely insignificant.

On the whole, though, I think we're saying more or less the same thing but coming from slightly different perspectives and using slightly different words. What it comes down to is that Cantr is great because it's Cantr :D

RPGs do not simulate society. People pick their roles and histories from ideas they have, mainly based off anime they have seen, it appears. Cantr is unique. I will not write a paragraph to explain it, but I will say one thing.
Cantr is NOT an RPG.
Cantr is a society simulator.

Cantr, to the individual player, is what they make of it, and what they choose to get out of it.

Cantr is an RPG in the original sense of the word, not in the bastardized conotation the phrase "roleplaying game" has come to take on. It's like saying D&D is all about the dungeon crawl. It can be, but it's not supposed to be. The classic pen and paper RPGs are intended to be about backstory and rich plot lines and character development - with the option for a dice rolling shoot em up if desired. This intention became distorted as people tried to program them into computers, giving us the definition we have today - with DOOM style games being called RPGs. *shudders* I feel dirty.

And societies will not fully develop without roleplay, so why are we trying to separate the two all the time. It's an RPG with a society simulation focus, isn't it?

Wow you know this game is intense when people have actual debates on what the game is.

How's it going, Ahoyhoy? Inquiring Cantrians want to know (mostly me but...*shrugs*) I love to hear about new player's experiences and impressions of the game.

My impression of the game so far is nothing but praise. I recommended it to my friend to play. He wants to conquer the world...but that's a different story lol. I've made four characters and have each of them with different goals. The game moves kinda slow, but so does real life so the simulation is accurate. I'm just wondering though, are the things that can be built the only things, or is it possible for someone to invent something?

The only inventing that you do is in the suggestions thread here in the forums. When an addition to the list is made, you can roleplay it as inventing if you are the first one in the area to build one, but other then that, you will have to throw any suggestions that you have up here on the forum and have everyone shoot them down (actually, most of the people here are fairly nice and try not to tear you apart for making a suggestion, but there are a few people who seem like they don't like changes no matter what, and they will make that clear).

Well the reason I asked is because I dunno if this is in game information or if it's ok to talk about outside but you can make a helicopter engine, but you can't make a helicopter.

The way I understand thing, is that when the programmers develop a flight system, then planes and helicopters and such will also be implemented. Some people have just got ahead of themselves and made the engine long before it will be able to be used for anything. You will find various things as you play the game that also have been implemented but don't have a use as of yet. There are tools that have no use, and there are resources that you can not do anything with. Yet.

Interesting. I wonder if they're ever gonna get guns or bombs or other stuff like that. Or maybe it would kill the gameplay? I dunno?
