In light of the recent alteration to clothes mechanics, I want to know if we're any closer to being able to achieve this? I know tools and weapons would still be a headache, but it would be great if we've seen another great step in the right direction.
I want my newspawn starter kit! 8)

After these changes storing clothes is as easy to implement as storing other non-raw objects. I checked what needs to be done to implement that and main problems are just: object types restrictions (no sword inside of a cup) and interface problems (current page can display only raws).
Second thing is more problematic, because we not only want to have it working but also have it comfortable.

I was looking at the range of portable storage products, and I honestly can't imagine many of them being suitable for storing weapons and tools.

Would it be a possible idea (I mean, any easier) to create just two or three items for the sole purpose of storing tools and weapons, instead of altering all of the existing storage products?

I imagine a 'gift pack', 'tool kit' and 'weapon cache' as possible names.

I just want a tool box, one that will hold tools, not weapons. I don't care really about it preventing rot, but it sure would clear some clutter and make it easier to hand someone a set of tools. I have seen an object page with something like... 15 screwdrivers, 12 hammers, 18 knives.. etc. I would love to be able to place a set of basic tools into a box and give it out to new spawns or say, if someone wants to build a car, you have all the tools in the box.. instead of searching through a page to find 1 at a time.

I completely agree. And they would need to be dynamically namable (if that's what you call it, like a vehicle or building when you build it), to name them different........Car Building Box, Newspawn Kit, Radio Kit

Sooo, when you lock a container, does other people still see what's inside?

Yes, it was implemented before container locks.

I know it was, but I haven't had my hands on a locked container just yet.

Would it be possible to limit visibility to locked container, as to make more of a "we broke in to a palace and there are tons of chests, which should we try break open first"-situation? Or just because it make more sense?

It would make sense if there was a difference between closed and open containers in terms of visibility.
