That's just wrong.

...and now that we're at the 'throwing around insults' phase with some straw man arguments thrown in I'm done with this topic, I've said what I had to say as clearly as I know how, but the internet will still remain the internet.

But completely ignoring a person's main point while calling them ignorant for not 'getting' yours is super classy, by the way. If other people are willing to make the effort to sit there and sift through a giant block of unformatted green text I just wish that in the future you'd take the time to try and understand and respond to what they're saying too.

Now to get back on the subject of general annoyances, I'll just say that I'm annoyed that keeping track of project ticks has gotten so tough due to the time change. And I'm also annoyed I can't gush about the best town on Cantr Island without giving my character away...

I am not sure if this will be helpful, but its a suggestion that somebody smarter than me may want to research.

On the events page of any char, you can scroll down to the boxes and the one on the furthest right with 4 diamonds in it will take you to player settings.
The furthest to the right is a "radio messages" setting that may only be for your char. You can check that box if you are truly sick of the "drivel" spouted by the box.
You do not have to change channels unless you want to; and you can sit in that room and tailor, smelt, or whatever else you do in a room with a radio.
They put alot of work into making these settings and I was ignorant of them for so long.
Perhaps I am not so unique in that.

At this point, I think you could probably 'uncheck' that same box when you leave the room.

If I am incorrect, I will edit or amend this post.

Yet I encourage every player to at least take a look at these settings. They could shorten your events page if you are in one of the larger cities in the game.

Have fun everyone!

The issue with this for me is that it doesn't make any sense. My characters see and hear everything else that goes on around them even while asleep, I can't just pretend like they've all suddenly gone a very specific sort of deaf. If they're in a room with a radio going they're going to hear it and have thoughts or responses to the messages just like if someone was talking to them.

It's a pity the filters don't apply by default though, because you'll have to activate them again every time you visit the character.

I'm on mobile, forgive me for not using proper indentation, I personally have no problem reading a block of text considering the severe lack of grammatical skills present in today's internet. I hardly think my block of text is that extraordinary, and I don't understand why you would use my formatting and font color as an argument when it's completely irrelevant.

Anyway I was only referring to one thing in this topic, and my point was perfectly articulated. Cantr characters are not children no matter what you try to pretend they are, it's a RULE.

Childlike characters are not supposed to be children, because this site does not allow pedophilia, it's that simple. Yes a mentally incapacitated person might not have the capacity or consent to have sex and to force them into such would be rape, but that's not pedophilia, you can also have a lack of consent when a perfectly healthy and capable adult is drunk, drugged, or unconscious. My entire point was not that it's okay to take advantage of a childlike character but that it's wrong to insinuate pedophilia because they are not children and pedophilia isn't allowed in this game (despite basically everything else being just fine). If you're insinuating that a "childlike" cantrian is a child, you are incorrect and it's a fact you can't refute, every cantrian is 20+ by default, a human child is under 18 years old (depending on the nation).

I know nothing of the characters involved and it's not something I've seen but I will say this and only this - there's quite a difference between someone who is below, even significantly, the average 'intelligence', but understands what they're getting into with such a relationship and someone who does not have the mental capacity to give meaningful consent to sexual activities, regardless of their age. Maybe this applies to these characters, maybe it doesn't, but just because no Cantrians are children doesn't mean there are none who should be protected under the same reasons.

Edit: I should that this applies equally to other situations which would remove someone's ability to give meaningful consent, regardless of intelligence and again age, many of which are very poorly respected in real life too.

It is entirely possible for myself and some others I know personally to leave a radio or television on in a room, go about their business doing other things, and effectively not hear the radio/tv at all even though their ears are still open to hearing someone else come in and chat. If something happens on it and they weren't paying it any attention, and someone asks them something about what just happened on it, they are then genuinely clueless because for all intents and purposes (except possibly deep hypnosis or subliminal messaging) they really didn't hear it at all.

A cantrian, on the other hand, could do the very same thing, and then still be able to turn the filter back off and report word-for word what was said while they weren't paying it any attention if the player so chose to give them that ability (and I could argue real-life based psychological reasons why that would be fine role-play).

So in this particular instance you can actually have your cake and eat it too, realism and all.

I'll try to space this appropriately so as not to confuse you then.

Anyway I was only referring to one thing in this topic, and my point was perfectly articulated. Cantr characters are not children no matter what you try to pretend they are, it's a RULE, get over it.

Childlike characters are supposed to be treated as adults, not children, because this site does not allow pedophilia, it's that simple.

I don't need to read all your comments justifying the discrimination of mentally handicapped adults, I got it from the original post that people are ignorant about the difference between an actual child and a grown adult with an adult body who happens to have developmental issues (which is NOT an insult, it's a word to describe a lack of knowledge on the subject and there isn't another word for it, if it offends you, you're free to educate yourself about various forms of mental illness, and not be ignorant on the subject).

Also most of the cases referred to are a perfectly developed person acting like a child because they think it makes them cute, and they're perfectly capable of acting serious and choose not to, and this should have no bearing on whether or not they are sexually active. I have friends who still "baby talk" because they think it makes them look cute, and it makes me roll my eyes, but I don't get creeped out that they have boyfriends or girlfriends, because they're not children.

Really that shouldn't be so hard to get, it's sad that someone can't just post facts and valid points and be heard out because others wish everyone in the world acted the same and had the same mental capacity and those who don't should be treated differently and looked down upon. Even sadder that the only real argument against mine was the formatting and color of my text. Just sad...

The way you write makes you insufferable and very unlikeable. That's a fact.

(those aren't insults btw, they're words in the dictionary, please educate yourself.)

Your complete inability to converse or interact with other humans without behaving that way is not really my problem.

But it is very sad.

I hope none of this confuses you.

Okay, we need to get some civility on this forum.
================

As far as the char filters, is just like a form of 'selective perception'.
Anyone who is married or has a teenage child knows what that is.

If you turn it off by filter, all the other chars in the room can still hear the radio.
If you choose not to do it because it is an IC thing... It was just a suggestion.
Then you only have ic options.

I'll lock this thread if things aren't kept civil in accordance to the FORUM RULES.

So there was this character who did a thing and the thing was only possible because of mechanic which I know is adjective but SERIOUSLY it's so adjective. It doesn't help that character did thing because reason and it's so adjective and I'm just strong emotion right now because WHY DOES QUESTION??? DFUGHAEWSDFHLXCKJ

All I have left to say on the subject is that I work with children and developmentally disabled people. And if anyone from this forum shows up to try and have sex with either one of them I'm going to be very upset. :P

We usually do manage to have very civil discussions on this forum even when we have major disagreements, so I guess I'm just not really sure how to respond when the tone of the thing turns so aggressive. But I apologize for fanning the flames, I agree it's really not constructive to have this going on in the thread. If anyone is still upset, just PM me and I'm sure we can arrange a nice private knife fight in a parking lot somewhere. :)

Wow, really? Argh, I hate when that happens! :P

Did you try DOING THING in response? I hear that helps sometimes even though I realize it won't change how expletive adjective it is.

Agreed, it really is too bad. It should be set up just like the activity filter where once you've set it, it'll be default the next time you log in.

And you know it really bugs me how all the towns my characters are in are so dead on a Sunday. What are these people doing, spending time with their families or something lame like that? This is the only day I get to actually relax at a computer and roleplay, you know.

From previous experience they'll all wake up tomorrow and want to talk while all I can do is hastily check the game from the phone I smuggled into the bathroom... :(

I didn't realize that there was no save button on those settings.
Does it reset everytime you change chars, or only if you log out of the game?

I still see this as a possibility, but I rarely use them myself. I like to know -everything- going on around my chars.
I wonder if a save button is possible? This seems to be a real issue with some people.
Darn, I am forming more questions per minute.
