The thing wrong with naming your charachter something like greyautumn, or memorex, is that it takes away from the realness of the game. Just as I get into it some guy says, "Hello, i'm a newspawn can you give me food, and clothing please? Oh, and my name is Big Booty"
Quite annoying isn't it?

Seems thats your problem and your inability to partition cantr from real life, not theirs...

There are at least three Brandons in the game but when you get to know the characters they are all different, the same is hopefully true of any name...

So you see Duracel and you can't think of anything else than a battery?

I've got into the habit of making my names as stupid as possible.
Some are original; Spadge McMuffin, Douglas Carpark, Nebworth Bobblehat etc..
Some I've taken from other sources yet are no less amusing (to me); Harulf the Warulf, Sminky Vongolian Splidge, Thnorko McZoob etc..

I guess it's in the pursuit of having characters named like none other in the world.

My character knew and loved the character Memorex ... and saw nothing wrong with his name. He was to her and is remembered fondly by me as Mem, a wonderful man.

One thing I can't stand is pun names... (i.e. Will Survive)
Just because you're older, smarter, stronger, more talented... doesn't mean you're BETTER.

"Joe Mamma"
I'm glad he was offed after stealing stuff.

As for productnames and such, well, something may be a known brand in one part of the world, but have no meaning at all in another.
So the player might name his/her char something which is very original where he/she's from, and you'd be judging that based on the fact that it's a brand name, while it's possibly used in only a small part of the world where you happen to live.
Heck, I could make a character with the name "Pain", and get judged differently in three areas.
In French areas, they'd wonder why anyone would be so stupid to name his character "bread", while in English areas it means another thing, yet if that char made his way to the Dutch area, in a town where no-one would know English or French, it'd just be an exotic name.
