Eh, it happens...
Projects from before the backup... I'm guessing that means my projects which were already close to being finished are safe, and probably those that were well on the way would be too.
And for those that weren't safe, well, those can be restarted.
Now, all that remains is to find the local chapter of Cantr-o-holics Anonymous... heh...

You know, a  news update  for those logging in would be a really great way for people who don't read the forums religiously to not have heart attacks and think PD is after them.

:edit: Thanks Jos!

Of course, if you want to traumatize the players, the current system is excellent.

:edit: (starts a big sympathy card for Jur)

Hey, this is a new thing, the PrD communicating these things to us via the forum. Let them progress one step at a time. ;-)

Not long ago we just had to sort of figure these things out for ourselves. :)

But what if you added resources to a project, since the back-up? You'll have lost those resources..won't you?

And what about lock-breaking projects and burials? If all those get reinstated, won't there be lockbreaking projects for locks that no longer exist all over the place? And maybe burial projects for bodies that are no longer there?

I mean, if the other data is still intact, then any change-of state due to projects starting or completing will be fiixed in concrete now, won't they?
Sounds somewhere betwen very complicated and impossible to fix to me. But , then, ummm, I'm not a programmer .

We are still working on this .. emails flying between ireland, holland, poland and the uk as we speak . We are aware that it is not just an issue of setting all projects back to yesterdays backup but we have logs of what has been used on projects since yesterday as well as what progress had been made . This will still take some time .

I'll add an ingame message (if there is not one already)

Well, we not only have the backup, but a log of what happened to it since too. We can kind of "play again" all the changes that happened to it since backup. Unfortunatly these logs are in text format, so Grzegorz and Chris are working hard right now to translate those into SQL statements that can be executed on the DB. I'm too stupid to help them...

Jur.

edit: and Chris beat me to this one as well...

KEEPER: What? I...I don't know that! Auuuuuuuugh!

Having had a tiny taste of SQL statements from an ex... I do not envy any of you. Good luck guys!!!!!

And good luck to you for dodging the grumpy remarks for actually deleting the projects. :?

 Jur, are they whomping you for this?
I wouldn't have mentioned it was your accident if I was you. There are probaby bombs being sent in the mail to you right now....

I joke, you know. Everybody makes mistakes, but only a couple of people dedicate their time to work on making my favorite game better.

No bomb in the mail from me, the post-office tends to pick those things up real soon here

And besides, without accidents and mistakes, there would be no improvement; it's accidents and mistakes that people learn from.
That said... wouldn't it be a blast to see the news tonight, with an item on how across the world people came running out of their homes screaming stuff that no-one else understands, just because Cantr wasn't working... heh...

Julie2:
I assumed those things would be tied in with the database of the projects, as it would be tied to the projects.
But, as it turns out, that information went elsewhere into plain text format.
And a project without all the required resources wouldn't be getting as far as I mentioned, anyways (nearly finished or at least well on the way to being finished).
I've seen partial projects that still needed some resources, and all of those were at stages nowhere near finished.

Jur Schagen wrote:This is my fault. I have run an erroneous DB query that deleted all projects. That's right, all projects.

Don't panic. ProgD is working hard right now to try and retrieve the projects table from backup, and finding a way to get all projects updated to what happened to them since then. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee if there will be some adverse effects, i.e. projects not advancing etc, especially if your chars have changed projects since backup or started new ones; but we have good hopes right now. Please, patience, we are doing all we can.

Jur.

As a professional developer I have always wondered how it feels when you realize you've goofed up like this.

Is it cold sweat and heavy heart beating, or what does it feel like?

Edit : I speel god!
