An IP address is not much more reliable than an e-mail address - proxies, public computers and PHP "browsers" hosted on free web servers are all ways of getting around IP logs. I prefer the current system over a form on the main page because while I can easily archive e-mails I send, I don't see any way of doing that with a web form (unless login is involved, which as Chris pointed out is not a good idea).
