Graphical maps don't have such problem. Or if map is made with new "direction: xxx" feature.

Well, this is often used argument of some Polish players too, but then others come with counter-argument: you can always remember and READ and WRITE name. You can only have problems with pronouncing it, but you don't need to prenounce name in game :)

I voted yes, but dont agree with the buildings idea. Imagine the headache of searching all the buildings untill you found yours again, just to be able to name it. Not to mention possible confusion over who owns what. I dont know if that makes sense to anyone, but its the best way I can think of describing it.

Maybe you have a case of amnesia. That's not true.

I remember this well. Ask Jos if you don't believe. At first all names were lost, but after some consideration someone retrieved (by hand?) names to all chars in the same locations arguing this by fact that everyone should know chars in the same location after such big change, but maybe this happened only in locations where I had chars but in others not? I don't believe. I don't remember if chars in buildings too or only those outside.

I remember the same thing KeVes does ;) ... But of course not 'manually'! :)

The argument about the Portuegese area is incorrect: since they already have to remember the location names explicitly, they won't even notice the general amnesia ;) ... Those names will not be lost.

This is also the solution to most your problems: if this poll looks likely to win (I have yet to vote and see the result), you should start storing those names now for your char. Even if you live in Quillanoi, and don't want to change the name, click on the location name, and change it to 'Quillanoi'. That way, if general amnesia sets in, you won't forgot that name. Also start with remembering your own building names, so that if it sets in, you can still find your old place :) ...

I voted yes, but with a sad feeling ... some of the unexplored islands have beautiful names and those will now never start a 'life' just like Quillanoi and Ladvicitavoi are not just strange names anymore, but true concepts :) ... But objectively, rationally, I totally agree with Nick here.

I voted with Jur here, on the pure basis of player comfort. I own too many buildings and live in too many towns to want to bother to go through the trouble of "remembering" them. Especially since a lot of my characters have structures spanning more than one location, and wouldn't necessarily go to that location to store a name in normal gameplay. I wouldn't mind the change so much if the names of the buildings on our location were remembered as well as those we have the key to. Some of these towns have a helluva lot of buildings. And seriously, forgetting the names after 35 years of gameplay? Do you want all my characters to think they're sick with alzheimers?

[I think I finally realize what was up with the Founding Fathers of the US Constitution when they required a two-thirds majority to accept a change.]

I no longer have confidence in a forum poll to get an accurate read of the stance of the players at large. Those too busy to come and lounge around here probably agree with me. A poll PM'd to each player having played more than one year with 3 positive points and 3 negative points as well as the description of the change, would make me feel better about capturing the entire picture, not just a slice of the pie.

It was probably a good idea to retire Hobbes at 1300, in light of this proposed change, so as to not have to keep going around a single continent re-establishing the location names in note form. Oh well.

I said yes. It's more realistic if we name them ourselves.

Some of my charries are out of town. I guess they'll just have to go try to enter all the buildings and see which one's they'll have keys to when they get back home - If they can find their way home, that is. Regarless, I do think this is probably a good idea. Maybe towns can make landmarks with the name of the town and also landmarks with names/directions of the roads out of town.

I agree with nitefyre...and that would be breakin a rule Jos. you cant use OOC info remember?

Edit: I thought I would make it clearer, your person cant store the names cause you know you will forget them.

That's nonsense. You char doesn't know (s)he will get this amnesia, but you do, and you can store this name. It's not a roleplaying issue - your char doesn't know the difference between just knowing the name of the building or knowing it because you stored the info. (S)he just knows it. It's not abusing OOC knowledge, it's just about how the interface of the game works and will work.

but you do
yes I do, and storeing names for my little peoples knowing that they will forget them sounds like useing my player knowledge, cause if I store them, I will not forget them and isnt that the point? to forget?
