I like the 'gmail style notification' idea better.

Sorry to bring this up again, but it was something I have always thought about. Even before I left. I do not know what was decided, but here is my suggestion...

So that it does not affect people who does not want it, I suggest that manually when you register for an account it does not automatically affect you, but you can choose to opt into it. I also suggest that it can be set that you can optionally choose what events you want mailed to you. (Hope this is not difficult to implement).

Anyway, it is just a thought that would help even active players like I was, because even when my characters were not busy I would sit in front of the computer all day checking every five minutes to see if something happened. I could have saved alot of time and could have done something important (like my homework lol) if I was simply alerted by my mailbox that an event occured.

Nough rambling for me. Thanks for listening.

Yeah. This is better than my old suggestion of me programming a .exe that runs on your computer and when events on the Cantr server occur for your character, it pops up saying 'A man in his twenties just picked up some rice!' and even more interesting stuff like 'a big scary motorbike just arrived in your town!' ooh and I'd add in my own suggestions like 'hey! he probably has a lot of iron on him and that'd definately benefit your town and it's army.. drag him inside and kill him!'.. kind of like a Felin Ginger moment.

I was going to suggest having a menu of things to choose from like, finishing a project getting hit, being whispered too. Although it might be nice to customise what you get mailed about it might encourage people to rp less, just logging in to start new projects and the like.
I dont think I would use this feature, I check my mail every few days so it would be little use.
Yuk yuk yuk.

lol That would have been hilarious!

Kreed> If people are logging in just to start new projects they will do it regardless of getting an email notification or not. As you can see this would not be for you. This is for those who do check their mail and would like to opt in to get certain email notifications.

Also, I think it would encourage roleplay more than discourage it. I go a while sometimes without checking characters because I do not think anything is going on and I do not want to sit at my computer checking every five minutes for something to happen. If I were to be notified instead I could stop what I am doing to roleplay instead of it taking hours for me to check.

On another note, this would also be very helpful for newspawns who quits because they think this game is boring because they speak and no one speaks back to them. Some people are very impatient when starting a new game. If several of the people in this town had their notifications on and they get one saying a newspawn just arived they can quickly log in to greet them. This would make the game seem active and encourage the newbie to stick around.

Anyways...just my thoughts.

Please implement this. This is such a good idea, it is so great for co-ordination! And it might save a town from an attack by bunch of pirates- or enhance the attack... :P

Isn't it a CRB to co-operate off-line to synchronise attacks etc?
Surely this is the same thing.
The usual dilemma.

Uh tell us how it's a CRB to slap someone awake?

I know you're just playing the devil's advocate but..

Most of the discussion here has been about far more than a slap, but even that can so easily be used as a signal. I know you can't guard against off-line synchronisation, but there's no point in making it easier.
I wasn't involved, but I'd have thought the incident where Nick Blackrock was killed could have been thought suspicious on both sides.

When there are plots being made that are CRBs they already have methods to make their cheating easier. Emails will not make it better and it will not make it worse. It will help those who need it IMO. It is not fair that good honest players have to suffer because of those who break the rules. These rules will be broken anyway so I really think this implementation will do more good then bad for reasons I have already mentioned.

I wouldn't wanna see people slapping town guards to get their attention, just by knowing that it will never cause any damage. I think there should be a random chance of dealing some damage. And also, include a shaking someone awake method that would generate the email, just like an attack would.

Keep in mind that it should be a choice of different events that you can choose to get an email for. This way no one can assume that one action will get someone to respond.
