Gator sits around an empty swamp watching snakes swim by, seeing a new spawn pop up was the highlight of his year. Besides, with decaying tools and weapons, it doesn't make any sense to hold onto too much surplus stuff. All my 60 year old players that have vaults of hard earned tools are scambling to repair and deal with this situation.

Okay, I have to ask: how do you go about RPing a hermit? Doesn't it get mind-numbingly dull after awhile? I mean, my characters generally prefer small communities over places like Djorf, but I would think a community of one is a little extreme. :)

Granted, with the right character I'd pounce on an abandoned location, but only in the hopes of building it up so that I could one day I could get a few other people living there to make char their leader because she was there first.

Do you at least get travellers now and then to break up the monotony?

You talk to yourself. It can be quite fun. :D I have one character that is a wandering traveller in an area where there are no people for a stretch of three "towns". It's like walking across North Dakota! I have actually been enjoying playing him, even though he hadn't seen another person for over a year. Once I finally did find people, they pissed me off. :D

I have two hermits, one in a swamp amd one in a desert. The one in the desert passes the time handing out food to starving desert travelors. The one in the swamp just sits there until someone passes by and does something worth responding to. I have a handful of characters that are active in the community, its nice to have one that doesn't have to do anything for weeks at a time. (I have to go on a potato run every 10 years or so, last time I did that, the crocodiles were killed off when I got back)

The hermit I had (who died ) actually travelled... mostly because he was trying to gather some resources and find a quiet place.. But he never spoke unless it was absolutely necessary, i.e. he made one trade and hit a couple of jerks once with his bow and then protested when he was killed for no good reason after coming upon an evil place in his travels (actually was killed by the guy he made the trade with ). But by travelling, he did have plenty to observe and think about, but refused to be a part of almost anything.

And wichita... that's a blasphemous avatar you've got there.. ;)

Maybe he's not confused. Maybe the guy just want to play an insane character.

This is my nomination, read top to bottom.

Chiza says: "hello”

Chiza says: "hi”

Chiza says: "what can i do with money"

Chiza says: "i have no idea what to do please help"

Chiza says: "are their special things you need to type in to get stuff"

Chiza says: "hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh"

Chiza says: "eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee"

Chiza says: "lllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll”

Chiza says: "pppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppp"

You see Chiza awkwardly hurt a pigeon using a bare fist.

Chiza says: "how do you pick up wood”

Chiza says: "pick up wood" .

That is the climax of one very confused person who just keeps playing. It’s been over a week and I still haven’t managed to teach him how to grill meat. I should never have broken character and been so nice to him, but I felt sorry for him. Oh well, you live and learn.

That's pretty inventive thinking. Gotta admire their attention span. Hey dude! You see a button with an arrow??

On a different note: I just saw a very good new player, who appears to have read ALL the introductory pages. Introduced herself, didn't pick up stuff or hit the animals, knew to look for food, put "OOC" in front of OOC talk... Bravo!

I met a rather nice kid in Brunoi, I think it was. Very sweet, read most of the rules. I just wish he'd stop using smileys.
