Did ancient bronze (of either kind) really use phosphorus?

The information online said it did.

Ermm...?

Well, I've just read a number of lengthy papers on ancient bronze, including a long one peer-reviewed by Oxford University, and they don't mention phosphorus once. And even in modern times a phosphorus-bronze alloy is very specialized, so what's with adding it and zinc as well?

No, I'm sorry. This doesn't make sense at all. You have made bronze so complicated in-game as to be entirely worthless. Doubtless part of this "ocean trading" mania on the part of the small coterie of staff members.

Basic bronze is copper, tin and something to burn. Simple as that. Anything else and I for one will once again have reason to seriously mistrust the motives involved.

Not that I could care less as regards weapons, since all my senior charries now have access to adequate steel producing industries. But bronze could have been of interest for future suggestions like building name-plates, memorials to the dead (with uniquely permanent names) and so on.

I had a ton of suggestions lined up before "tiredness" went in, but am holding back on them because the game went seriously backwards after that. And just at the very moment when things begin looking up, you have to go and dream up "phosphorus."

I have to agree, if it's required for bronze, it does strike me as odd

required for bronze or not...
why bother making bronze if, as in real life, it's less durable than iron/steel, but is more difficult to make? I know the process should refelct real life ways of making bronze, but the only reason for bronze in the post-bronze age world of Cantr would be that it should be easier to make...

which doesn't seem to be the case, so why bother?

unless we can start making casts and get a bit of sculpture going - that's be good ;)

Bronze isn't even fully implemented yet. How can you say it'll be harder than Iron or Steel?

Just because it requires a resource not yet around you, doesn't mean that the resource in question will be hard to find.

Did you not read all those posts about phosphorous NOT being part of bronze?
This is more signifigant than you guys are taking it, methinks.

No, actually.

I was more interested in the fact that you're all complaining, than the fact of WHAT is being complained about. It's who I am

So, if it's not needed, then perhaps it'll be removed. We'll see. I'll have to speak to the member(s) that's working on Bronze, to see what's up.

Well, if it's not fully and properly implemented and/or researched yet - you're kinda asking for grief if you shove it into Cantr proper - what d'ya take us for? Guinea pigs? ;)

This is why there should be a bigger test environment. I know one exists, but there should be more active people in it, so things can actually be tested thoroughly before being added to the game.

The past several additions to the game, according to popular opinion, were added prematurely.

We can't do everything at once. We need to wait on New Lands to place the resources and then it takes time for us to make all the objects in the database. Right now bronze is impossible to make because a certain resource does not yet exist in Cantr. And bronze will be a lot easier to make, and if I can convince the powers to be, easier to find than iron or steel.

it ought to be, that's why bronze tools came before iron and steel.

Actually, because it was easier to figure out how to smelt (correctly) mostly...
And maybe because it was easier to smelt a little bit of by accident and discover it.
