I think it might encourage people to play if people were allowed to team up with their real life friends. The problem is newbies talk about it in a way that clearly uses OOC knowledge so they get busted, while oldbies might talk to their friends outside the game, so they won't get caught. I bet there's lots of pairings that aren't an accident but a result of OOC planning, they are just so subtle about it they won't get caught.

If they were allowed to team up with 1 or 2 real life friends it would be one thing, but there's been many an MMO that involves a forum or two on the internet saying LETS ALL GET ON THAT SERVER! and then they ostracize everyone who isn't part of their completely out of game forum clique. I've played muds (with one server) that would lead to them halting the progress of, and pvping people who arn't part of their (out of game) grouping until they stop playing.

A weird sort of gang bullying.

There are ways of solving that problem in-game and in-character, so it's not a big deal.

Well if that leader sleeps behind locked doors and you cannot make crowbar there isn't much left to do... well leaving but thats not a solution. Sleepers are problem.. expecially if he has all things and you have none

I've become frustrated at times with sleepy leaders, but the good ones usually have people that they can rely to cover things while they sleep. Like Hyrle said, there's usually in game solutions. I've noticed it seems to be more acceptable these days to let the sleeping leader die or even help them along. One thing I am doing in the situation sherman describes is play solo I guess you could say. I'm doing everything on my own with no help from other players. Lots of walking to get going well but I think it will be rewarding when the charrie gets to the point of having a vehicle and a nice weapon that they made with their own hands without any help from other characters.

Back to the main topic...Dont forget to vote when you can!!!!! Some of those sites only get a handful of votes a day. Shouldn't be too hard for us to have Cantr on top of a couple if we give a little effort ;)

As a relatively new player, I resent - or maybe resemble - that remark. :D

In any case, a little trouble isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I feel like we shouldn't be so afraid of getting new players, even a large amount. New players are good. How would we have ever found Cantr if we didn't see it advertised somewhere or heard about it from someone? Yes, not so good players come along with the good players, but it's worth it. Cantr could be so much more with more players. At least one of my characters is severely limited in her plans by the lack of characters. If there are players who aren't doing playing the game correctly, let the PD worry about it (though I realize that the PD can't know/solve everything). More players means more staff too, and a better game.
Generally those who don't like the way Cantr is leave after a fairly short time, or even a day... The idea is to get the word out enough to get the small percentage of good long-term players.

Cantr is nearly dead. The aged characters dissuade innovation from the young ones. Sure, there are promotional opportunities in some towns, but old ideas have made this game lame. We need more conflict in cantr and I'm not talking about "oh he's mean so I don't talk to him". I'm talking full out towns that hate other towns. Rivalries and disputes between neighbors are all over the world. A society simulator with little conflict is unrealistic. Older characters have less conflict than younger characters. I'm not encouraging more killing, but people in this game need to stop wanting to be so friendly.

Lets end this idea that we need more hippy jamboree time.

I totally agree. To some extent, I feel that large numbers of chars discourage this. Not only that, they lead to sleepy, underdeveloped chars which the player doesn't really care about and doesn't care if they die.

I feel it'd be much better for Cantr if players were limited to five chars.

Sounds like the only way for a role playing game to be fun is if it's a slow-motion text based Call of Duty. Strange, I'd been enjoying the regional fairs, local trade systems, government alliances, and other, non-violent interactions.

While violence and conflict can be exciting I think I'd leave pretty quickly if they were the only form of excitement around. I'm finding plenty of peaceful activities interesting.

I do think limiting character number a bit lower would help, so people would put more effort into the characters they have. I had a misunderstanding with PD about a week in and haven't been able to contact them since so my character limit is locked at 4. I think that's gone a long way towards both keeping me from throwing myself in too far and burning myself out and making sure I really value and put my time and effort into the characters I have, and even if they did get back to me now I'd not likely ask again for the limit to be removed.

I agree on this but then again some might do it over and we would have lot's of dead bodies out there. You just need one fool to start all out war. (On which case I would recommend COD )
