what about deers and horse? 'cause those aren't budging. Or is it like one at a time?

Yes, but the numbers there are possibly so low that the odds of a new one appearing are minimal. Horses and deer are the most wide-spread animals in the game.
The good news is that it appears the graphical animal tool will be fixed some time this year, and I can go back in and straighten things back out.

Re: Animal mating (animals making more animals)
I have noticed in a town that we are losing the last of an animal. I thought I read somewhere that this would not happen. I have seen it twice in the same town now. The hunting law is nothing under 11. The town watched them disappear anyway. What gives?

The animals are broken, and have been for quite a long time. What is the name of the town, and what island is it on?

I saw the last mastodon disappear from the forest where my char lives.

Well, that's very interesting. It seems the mechanism to keep at least one animal alive per location indefinitely is broken also. I think it just needs to be re-written from scratch.
