I would hope that all those preparations are done before you cook them, too. Cooked dirt is still...dirt.

True of course.

Re: discourage eating raw foods
Well, for cooked foods you can assume it's included in the cooking time, unless it's automatic.

Re: discourage eating raw foods
All this discussion about realism is missing the point. It doesn't matter if it's alright to eat raw food in the real world. If making the eating system favor cooked foods improves the game, then we should go in that direction, regardless of if it's realistic or not.

Well yes that was mostly the reason of my suggestion. And yes I believe it will improve the game.

Re: discourage eating raw foods
Since I have invoked realism in my own arguments in the past, I should add that realism is a valid argument only in cases where there are not more important considerations.

Re: discourage eating raw foods
Probably the easiest way to discourage eating raw foods would be to decrease their nutritional values, but I'd prefer to reduce the gathering rates instead. We will have to make some changes of this kind anyway, so cooking will become automatically more attractive.

Re: discourage eating raw foods
If you reduce gathering rates, you automatically make it harder to cook the food also, unless you then go and increase the nutritional value of cooked foods accordingly to compensate for the extra time.

Re: discourage eating raw foods
Something is needed to make cooking more attractive and you can't do that by changing something that will effect both.

Re: discourage eating raw foods
Harvesting the raw food contributes surprisingly little to the overall cost of prepared food. Making 800g of baked potatoes in an oven takes 1 day for the cooking and only 0.5-0.1 days to gather the potatoes. Doubling the time to harvest the potatoes makes baked potatoes only one third more expensive (or less). This could of course be compensated by raising the baking effectiveness a bit, but considering the current overabundance of food, that should hardly be necessary.

Re: discourage eating raw foods
But with that its still unlikely people will stop eating raw food and go to cooked foods in stead.

Re: discourage eating raw foods
Well, if you would be able to feed more people in less time by cooking food, rather than eating it raw, it would be a waste not to cook it. In places where food is sparse this might be incentive enough.

I think mine will do it in protest to no longer being able to survive fully on foods they have done all their lives. Who cares if they're walking around 100% tired.
