Sorry for doublepost, hehe.
I have a question. Did anyone here ever try to make a team of thieves? Like, with 3 or more people? One of my characters seems pretty succesful in making something like that.

One of the problems is that it's likely that one of the thieves is a big fat liar and runs off with the stuff we stole and the car we took.

Few years ago when I first started playing we did that. There were 5 of us. Two of them decided(separately mind you) they were gonna take everything and ditch.

That was a piss off, because I was one of the original who decided to form the group. Three of us were left standing there going "ah what the crap?!"

That's why you must always let them know that there will be more. And give seperate tasks. You do cooking, You repair tools, You do this, You do that etc.
That way everyone needs eachother and won't have a reason to leave.

And don't give newcomers a shield rightaway. Wait untill they've shown that they're trustworthy. If they can't be trusted after all, you can easily kill 'em. :D

Wiro talks well, give him vodka

I've already wrote about my dear manipulative son of a female dog pirate/thief, let his poor body rest in peace (and it does, from what I've seen on the little "6th sense" event 8) ) in a thread about piracy, so I won't be repeating the whole story, just a few strategies of obtaining a trusty, loyal crew he had:

1. Recruiting - from all his crew members none of them knew what their going into when walking on the board for the first time. They were just joining the people who they became friends with, and then... well... when the time was right, there was, sort of, explanation of details... very minor details
There were some situations, when the recruiting actually took place together with the theft, and the poor recruit haven't realised anything up to a point, when...

- hey, why are you looking behind so nervously?
- just checking if we're not followed
- why should we be?
- oh, well... I'm afraid we may have some... trouble... You see, we just took some things from the town - not that they should need them, you know...
- you did? when? Anyway *shrugs* how much was it?
- *explains...*
- ...........................................................................................

The one and only person who tried to join them with a "hey I know who you are, so better take me with you or I may cause the officials around here to think a bit and ask you some very inconvinient questions" pick-up line ended up, just few days after leaving the harbour, with a necklace of hunry fishes around her slit throat.

2. Keeping together - there will sure be no real monolith, some people will like some more than others, but it's just natural, isn't it? The key is to make them realise they can get more for their own aims by keeping together. Everyone's needed - and if he's not, make him. And make him need all the others. Just play a bit with the strings - tighten here, loose there - got the flow?
Besides, there's nothing better than keeping the whole crew emotionally bound to each other... and for that there's nothing better than some group phisical activities from time to time... If you had problems with choosing the right sport discipline, the "count the legs and divide by two" worked pretty good for me, although "wipe the sleeping town clean" may be of use as well, if you, for any reason, don't like the first one

Miri -

I'm a bit more direct with recruiting members.
I ask people that have no shield, and if they decide that joining my team isn't the right thing to do, I kill them.
After they have proven themself to be usefull, and I let them now they will only gain more the longer they stay with me, I'll allow them to wear a shield.

Of course, when suddenly attacked I'll have to give them a shield.

Currently I took a big risk. I went to another place to get food with one of the others, and left the two others behind to finish a certain task.
If everything goes well, we'll have food and I know I can trust those two.

And what exactly do you mean with "Count the legs and divide by two"?

The only successful theft I had yet was my first character.
Stayed in the location I spawned for several days then decided to move on and kept the sledgehammer i had loaned. When confronted, I returned the sledgehammer, but took a lot of various resources.
A member of the town caught up with me in the next location and demanded the resources back. Returned about 10 % of them and was left in peace.
Admitted this to the new town leader, gave them some of the resources I stole (said it was all) and pledged allegiance in exchange for healing food.
Two days later, raided the storage room and took off unnoticed.
Still travelling to next location.

Thanks god for 'Heavens Bike' :)

I'm 14..

And I doubt my thief will get a reputation like that. He just kills everyone that knows him, unless they join his thief crew.

The only thing I could think of is that it's a weird way of counting...
Just tell me

I had a wildly successful thief for a while. The charrie literally had a different name in every town so I don't remember what he was called. He went all around Treefeather Island stopping every 3 towns or so and took everything he could find that wasn't locked up.

Then in one of his last stops there, some high-up Silver Knight up and died suddenly and of course I made off with everything he had on him. They followed me in a galleon but I lost them over Cantr Island way.

Then embarked on the same grab-and-go spree at that island. At Cantr island there's some weird little fjord/inlet, I went in there and found a town off the beaten path and took 100's of kilos of stuff all at once, stone, corn, I don't rememeber. It took 30 trips to carry it all off but nobody ever woke up.

That charrie eventually went to the Polish lands and created a Polish-English dictionary of sorts (I've seen copies of it in game since). Then sailed on to yet another island before I got bored and terminated.
I kill threads. It's what I do.

and since when cantrians do have 4 legs each? It's not about foxes here

um... for now just imagine a bed with _lots_ of legs sticking out from underneath the blankets  more detailed explanation for you comming in 4 years

about reputation - my thief is actually going to become some sort of pirate. Right now he's just became a part of the crew of the ship he's planing to steal, just waiting to get the keys of it. Already did steal some things, although I'm not sure if it can be called theft, as the guardians seen everything, and he's just talked himself around from it
Although even more _right now_ he's busy geting himself the most important factor of my poor late Han's succes - a man

So basically you mean that they're all having one big gangbang and while they're doing that you steal everything, riiight? O:
