 Just so you know, although Visual Basic is a quick and easy language to use, it runs disturbingly slow b/c it generates so much extra unnessissary data. If you plan on making this an MMO I would sugest something different (almost anything different).

Yeah, I think VB is the programming language with the worst reputation on all fronts :-) ... I never used it, so I can't verify, though.

Seko, I have always been very bad at listening to players and Cantr is still fairly big, no ;) ... I would even argue that not listening has helped the game, and in areas where I eventually budged, I get now the most complaints (e.g. skills).

I'm not talking about small details, of course, where listening to the players is definitely a good idea, but rather about the overall game design, where I think you should be very careful. Listen to players because of their ideas and experience, but focus more on your own overall idea than on theirs, I would suggest.

Well thanks for the suggestions guys. *smiles* The game I am making is not a online MMORPG like Cantr, but rather a offline game. I would never use VB for online gaming, in fact it would be close to impossible. However for the type of game I am making it works fairly well. Sorry if I came off wrong when I started this topic several months ago. I am afraid I was whining a little. Anyways, I will post the URL whenever I get the downloadable Demo ready. Hopefully shortly after Christmas. Like I said though, I have been spending "ALL" my spare time on Cantr. In the game, the RD, and the Wiki. Its "TOOOOOO" addicting.

I use VB a lot for writing macros
It does what it does with relative simplicity.

(Office work = stuck with winowze and MS office, whether I like it or not
( www.openoffice.org is so much better...) )

But what it does is limited. I wouldn't dare do anything other than use it to easily manipulate codes or programs written in a more professional code.

I can't imagine the gaming potential of VB extends beyond noughts and crosses...

Sorry, but I can't avoid it, I hate Microsoft for all the awkwardness in their products and the corruptness and all their lack of integrity in their marketing policies.

Well, VB is better now than when it was launched (an absolutly slow and crude interpreted language). Now it is faster, and has copied some good functionalities from other languages (it is better late than never). But it is still a pile of failures and bugs and a nice way to come into or to crash a PC.

Nowadays Microsoft has cleaned some of their infamy with the .net, but I'll never forgive them.
