Don't knock it until you tried it.

And of course there's RP involved. Mostly lying-through-teeth.
Edit: Example removed - it was one of my favourites, and has worked a few times, so probably best not to publicise it :)

lol, I'm not knockin' it or the testing death thing. :D

As a player I didn't want to 'test death'... the character did. He knew he could survive the road trip, though I knew he wouldn't... I don't get why Ahoyhoy didn't get that!! :P
Nakranoth's "evil" character says:

Stealing a bone shield and 2000 onions is not risk taking, it's basically saying either A) Blah I hate where I spawned so i'm going to commit suicide to get spawned elsewhere or B) Blah i'm bored let me steal some stuff and if I die oh well i'll just spawn another guy and steal again.

Either way that's not a character acting on reasonable terms, it's a character knowing that this is an RP but not RPing. The goal of Cantr is to have a world as real as possible and I think making consequences for when a player loses a character when that player is younger than 25 is a reasonable consequence. I mean, if there were no consequences in real life for death, like if you knew you would just be reborn elsewhere, would people be so careful with life right now?

What this rule does is it still allows people to be risk takers, but not insane risk takers. Stealing a 2000 onions and a bone shield and risking your life is insane. It's as insane as stealing a cub from a mother bear right in front of the bear.

However, if people want to still be the dumb theif and steal the 2000 onions and bone shield they are still allowed to. The character slot is not locked up permanently and if a player plays this game and starts off stealing (like we all do) and loses 8 character slots, but then starts to like the game, the person will not want to be dumb and kill off their character should they spawn in a bad location (as i'm sure everyone has done before).

Also, those who are over 25 are not penalized from dying, so people 25 and above can take all the risks they want, this rule is not universal.

Yeah, because I still say having a char you've been playing for a 100 days or more die is a much worse 'penalty' than getting a slot locked. '

Even my char who's less than a year old, it would hurt bad to lose them (and a couple of days ago I thought I was going to) and going out and immediately making a new one would feel like watching your dog get hit by a car and then buying a new puppy the same day. Each char has their one life and personality and can't ever be replaced no matter how many times you click the green smily face.

An alternative idea for the 40-day rule.

If the spirit of the rule is to prevent this:

Ahoyhoy wrote:Stealing a bone shield and 2000 onions is not risk taking, it's basically saying either A) Blah I hate where I spawned so i'm going to commit suicide to get spawned elsewhere or B) Blah i'm bored let me steal some stuff and if I die oh well i'll just spawn another guy and steal again.

(personal note: these are the reasons why the whole community of Cantr was affected with a 40-days rule?? Oh my...)

Nevermind. Let's go on.

Why not a "if-you-play-Cantr-stupidly-then-we-consider-you-as-a-stupid" rule? I will explain it:
A) If someone under 25-years-old commits suicide, let him/her create a character again with no restriction of time, but his/her new character will only be spawned at the same location the last died character was spawned.
B) The same hypotesis for point A, and the same solution. If a player creates a character with the objective of stealing, then his/her character will be a burglar or a pirate or a murderer, and that's what Cantr can't manage. But how many times can a stupid player do the same thing in the same location?. He/she steals, he/she's killed or commits suicide, he/she spawned again in the same place, he/she does the same pirate things, he/she's killed or commits suicide... I don't think a person could have and exclusive slot for doing that all the time.

Sending under 25 yo to the same location they have died could also mean a way to let them the possibility of learning where did they went wrong, and what actions could be taken to make a better living for their players.

What do you think? Does this idea brings some kind of solution to those "suicidal newspawners", or not?

That was a pretty mild example actually. I can't believe you've never run into a suicidal newspawn, I envy you man, there are times when I've had to put down several a week.

Girl spawns in the middle of town, yells, 'Ahhhhhhh!' and slaps everyone, including herself, hangs around a few minutes insisting she's crazy and begging people to kill her, then when no one wakes up finally leaves. I follow her out on the road and try to talk to her, she starts the 'Ahhhhhh!' thing again and tells me to kill her, starts swearing at me when I atfirst refuse. Finally I -do- get fed up and attack her, at which point she says 'thank you' and is suddenly polite.

Guy spawns, runs into a building and with one gram of hematite renders the stone table useless.

Another guy spawns, goes into a building, grabs up the town's entire supply of wood and wastes it on a cottage named after himself. Doesn't even bother to run, just hangs around and insults everyone until he's dead.

And then of course there's the note stealers, the sexually frustrated 14 year olds, the ones that act like they have Tourette's Syndrome, and the ones that seem to invent a brand new form of idiocy with every char.

None of these things are unusual incidents in anyway. It happens every freaking day, several times a day.

And there's no way I want to see any town inflicted with the same idiot over and over again...you think you're be punishing the CRBer that way? All you'd do is give them a special slot for their own amusement to spawn a new char in every single day. We don't even get a message when a newspawn pops up, but the newspawn itself is active the moment they spawn, there'd be no way to drag every one of them into a jail in time and the guards would constantly be wasting their time on the road. Also the whole idea would cause OOC problems, since even if they did eventually shape up everyone would know what the platyer was like and they'd never be trusted.

We don't have that trouble in the Spanish Area. I'm sorry I can't understand you completely, and I'm grateful we don't have to bother with that problem. I'm starting to think it's a real problem for Cantr, but I haven't feel it on my own. So try to understand my point of view when they're settling me a 40-days rule just for nothing.

Marian wrote:None of these things are unusual incidents in anyway. It happens every freaking day, several times a day.

I have the mostly part of my characters on the Spanish Area, and I haven't seen anything you describe at all. I have some at the Netherland and in the English Zone, and no, no sign of suicidal newspawns have been occured there yet.
But I do understand what you're telling me. Perhaps it will be a problem we should treat in the future.

Ok, I got it. So let's add another point to the "if-you-play-Cantr-stupidly-then-we-consider-you-as-a-stupid" rule:

C) If a player whose character have died and then been re-spawned in the same location (following points A & B of the rule) for three times in a period of 40-days (yes!, why not?), then the player is banned from Cantr, because he/she will consider as a "stupid". So he/she is going to loose not only the suicidal newspawn, but all of his/her characters.

One word: LUNACY

so you force someone to respawn in the same location thereby exacerbating thier negative impact in game and making them more likely to give the game up rather than learn from their mistakes..

We go from losing some slots to a total ban!

The idea of locking the character slots for 40 days is by far less cruel than banning the character. That is basically saying "either shape up or you are banned" which is not a good idea. Most new players make the same mistakes, it's hard to get into the Cantr world at first. Stealing and causing havok and what not is fun. A player should be banned for doing what most every person has done when they first started player Cantr.

As for the rule of the person spawning in the same location, that is cruel to the guards and citizens, not to the player. The player i'm sure will be like I AM HARRY THE 2ND. I AM THE SON OF HARRY THE 1ST AND I WILL HAVE MY REVENGE. And then hit everyone and run away with the guards still on the road chasing the previous character.

Two things.
1) If a newplayer starts a character and it's killed by, say, barons or blackrocks straight away, they can't play and will stop playing from there, undoubtably.
Imagine that happening to great people like Dee, SekoETC or Hermit?

2) Interesting to see that there was actually a suggestion about Suicidal Newspawns, to ban the player if they make them! (it was 1 and a half years old)
Nakranoth's "evil" character says:

"Thief! That's terrible! *shakes his head* That would hurt people's feeling if I did that."

Eh? What makes you say that? Even if they're first character is killed the first day, they still have their other char and a new one possible every day after that.

Hehe true but if...
wait, stuff it, the player can wait a day for another slot!

Have I posted here before? Anyway, the slot... one slot is blocked, not the whole account. If you're a new player still under the limitation and you lose a character, you only need to wait a day to create a new one. If you're not a new player, and your account is not full, you could create up to 14 characters if you had had only one who died under 25.
