Nah, I am not sure I like the random birth - would make the whole procreation aspect a bit useless ... and I think Cosmo underestimates the problem - we will, not only at first, have many more applications than romance, I think :) ...

Currently, there is only 1 woman for every 2 man. We have a whole list of applications every day ... so, how is this going to work?

Oooh, never thought about twins and triples :D ... That would solve part :) ... That solves all, perhaps :) ... it's just going to be common to get a lot of childs at once ... a bit more like a cat ;) ...

That would be solved through the society though, like they do in real world places like China.

Umm About the rape issue? If it is going to be a project like Jos suggested there is no way to prevent it from entering game. :?

All you'll have to do is throw someone in a building and tell them if they don't participate you'll kill them. lol...That would be considered rape no? Of course the person would have the choice to participate or die. But thats still rape. I suppose it would depend on each town what they considered rape however.

My thoughts.

* Name should be decided by the parents.
* first 5 charactors started by player are 20 year olds, then if there are parents trying to procreate all new charactors made by the player are babies. If the amount of new charactors being made exceeds the amount of people trying to procreate, then you may make a 20 year old.
* Gender should be a random thing. I mean, you don't get to choose your gender in real life, so why should a "life sim" be any different?
* A random profile would be nice, such as eye color, height, weight, hair color, etc.

This is an extremely good idea for the game. I just recently started playing, and I got to wondering, why are there no children? If you start out as a child, then your parents will end up having a huge factor in how you turn out as an adult. For example, if your father is a smithy, and your mother is a smithy, then they would probably teach you their trade. But if they abandon you, and you get taken into some crime syndicate, then you'd probably be doing some very illegal stuff in your life.

Simply put, this is the one major thing that's missing from the game. A must have!

and when there are no baby slots waiting the twenty year old would spawn by population density as opposed to spawn locations (I forgot who's idea that was, but it's a good one)....

But is the latter - spawning by density instead of spawning location - still necessary if we allow for children? :) I would rather have just some control over population spread using assigned starting locations, while the majority of new characters should be born and thus based on where others are, if you see my point.

I see your point, but spawn locations tend to be overcrowded, a good place for newbies, but bad if you already have had 5 characters spawned there...

There are now something like 22 English starting locations, though, so this should already be less and less of a problem ... especially if we also introduce children ...

There will probably be many more applying for playing children then there are children "created", so if the children is "our of stock" perhaps the playners waiting should have the possibility to start a grown up character?

The name issue I don't really see as a problem, since the system is dynamic...

But the people waiting in line should have to play the children seriously.
If they kill the kids off or act badly in some other way they should be booted from the game, or at least locked out of the waiting list...because if two dedicated players have spent a lot of time forming a relation between their charcters it would really suck to have some idiot kill it off or play it in a bad manner.

There would have to be some text somewhere that tries to convey the impressionable nature of children, and encouraging them to let their environment shape them, which would result in less random suicidal spawners.

On the other hand, if during the maturing process, the baby/child is inhibited it could allow time for the intial reaction to be changed, after the player is forced to be in the area for a while by the characters immaturity the player may take aliking to it. If you see what I mean.

strongly agree, the name, as David said, is irrelevant. We can call each other whatever we want (ref. Redfish Jones and Seth "Sammy D" Everett ;) )

and if this random profile for children is introduced, it should be highly affected by the profile of the parents. so if both parents have brown eyes, then their child would probably have brown eyes.
DOOM!
