Who needs automatic eating?

Postby Nick » Sun May 08, 2005 4:46 am

I think it would be neat if you could eat at will, rather than automatically at the same time of day. If you don't eat often enough, your hunger goes up. Maybe if you eat too much, your fat could increase? This could be nice for programmers to be able to have your diet affect your character in different ways, as well.

Don't eat enough vegetables, and you could be vulnerable to scurvy.
Or maybe a high protein diet could really help in training your town guard? :D
Any thoughts?

I like the scurvy et al idea. It bugs me a lot that there are apparently not any drawbacks to eating nothing but potatoes for your entire life.

As far as changing automated eating goes, it would be nice to be able to turn it off, or at least select which type of food you eat in a particular day if you are holding more than one. It could quickly become a problem for the non-addicts that don't check in every day, though. We would definitely see a body pile up if the automation was turned off. A switchable feeding switch could be cool to aid in managing resources, if it's not too difficult to program.

If you don't check your characters once a day, you're not going anywhere in Cantr. :P

Yeah... I don't think I'd like to to be turned completely off, but to have an option. I graduate from truck driving school in three months. So I may not be on every day.

This is gonna be a problem for some people... Not for me, I've got a job with a pc on my desk, free internet connection and so on. But for those away from home without a laptop, it might get tough.
Not that good.

If you cannot check Cantr once a day, you'll have worse problems than going a little bit hungry.
If there was to be no automatic eating, you could eat more if you're hungry, perhaps.

yeah true... but being away for a week now, doesn't really have to be a problem. It would then.
Not that good.

I agree with Peter. I'm planning to travel around Asia for about 3 months, without automatic eating I might as well delete my account, 'cause I have no idea how often I will be able to log in

Me too. And if this was implemented food would also become much more valuble for trading.

Yeah this idea isn't any good. Leave the auto eating alone, it should stay =P

awful idea to turn off automatic eating - awful, just awful...

but being able to choose what you eat - that I like.

Auto feed is good, having a choice to turn it off would be ok, but probably alot of work for programers, for the few who would actually do so, which makes it impractical....
Food choice is good but again...probably impractical for programmers to spend thier time on it, when there are other things that need attention

Well, I think something needs to be done about food. It's just so...dull.

Being able to turn off automatic eating would be nice, though the option would still need to be there for people who are going to be away from the computer for awhile.

Choosing what food you want to eat when you're holding several kinds would also be good; I think I suggested something like that before.

Also, I'd like it to be visible when a person eats healing food or anything that's not automatic. You can see every other tiny thing a person does, so why not this?

People can eat MORE when they are hungry, I have said. So even if you don't eat everyday, you can just eat MORE one day, and get rid of your hunger.
This would add for a lot of new health functions in the future. Think about it!
