Well, that's what happened with dynamic naming of people, and everything turned out fine . . . Also realize that you are not born knowing the name of every place.

Total rudeness. I hate it when people call random things / ideas "gay."

Read the other topic.

As things stand, ANAX, there are no real changes. You can changed the name, but they are still set to what they were before.
But before you say something is "retarded" and "total gayness" maybe you should read some of the comments and explanations? Laziness is no excuse for being ill-informed.

Sorry if this has already been discussed, but what about stores with their names on the doors to explain the product? Now we need more notes that can be stolen to tell you if there is a trading post or certain store in an area.
When I go to a new town in real life, I may have to ask directions to the Piggly Wiggly Market, but when I am standing infront of a row of buildings, I usually don't have to ask which is the market and which is the town hall. then again in cantr maybe there is no such thing as a store sign and all the cottages are exactly alike... even though you can tell a hall from a mud shack by looking at it.

Just trying to get my head round how this may all work, and pulling together some ideas. So, buildings will now be named dynamically, and we might forget all the places we've already learned. People are calling for some kind of sign system, and this is generally aproved, and looks like it's going to use wood as a reasonably common resource. Ok, here's an idea:
Put a sign on every current building and vehicle, and in every current town, giving their current names before implementing general amnesia.
The instant effect of the general amnesia will be considerably less disruptive as everyone will be able to see the signs, but we have all the potential benefits of being able to change how we refer to buildings, and, with a little effort, change the signs that everyone else can see.

The one thing I REALLY REALLY hate about this, though - and it's one thing that does not surprise me - is that all over the place, people are simultaneously saying "Now we can change the name of our home...". Sorry, but you can call it what you want, when you want. The fact that it's been implemented codewise that you can rename for your own purposes doesn't mean that everyone should suddenly want to! Besides, people who live in a place tend to want it to stay with the same name.

For the purpose of people totally lost inside large nested building "warrens"?
I don't see the need for this at all, the exit from a building is listed on the location page, any further buildings are listed on the buildings page, or are there buildings that I have just not gone into, where this is not the case?
Even if the voices aren't real...They have some pretty good ideas!

Now that is a great idea, why didn't I think of it?

Just make sure that any sign is visable from the main buildings and vehicles screen. Having to click another button for each building would be silly
ie...
[point][enter][knock] A wooden building with a sign "Joes Diner"
This building could then be renamed using (<Building Description>) for "a wooden building" and (<Sign Description>) for "a sign "Joes Diner""
So the default description could be (<Building Description>) with (<Sign Description>)
As building/sign deteriation and signs of differing materials are introduced the cantr description and sign description could change to reflect this. ie "an old wooden building" or "A solid gold sign "Joes Diner""
Lastly, all buildings should automatically have a sign named the same as the building was to avoid mass confusion in the transition

At the moment Cantr has the auto-fill, but that might change in the future. I hope it does.
Well, when talking about signs on buildings, you might want to consider signs in the town stating the townname. Although that could be done simply with a note, I suppose.
