Speaking OOC
I'm FUMING MAD at the moment. Have you noticed how some people cannot seem to stop speaking ooc, and they do not know how to separate IC from OOC, but instead speak both in the same sentence w/out specifying?
It is pissing me off! I think I know for sure it's one person bc in several places he has been doing this.
Anyway, just thought I'd bring it up for discussion. Why is it people feel the need to correct what should be IC in an OOC comment? And why do others have no basic understanding of the difference between IC and OOC, though they claim to? Same guy used my OOC comment to speak IC and then responded to the THOUGHTS of my character...um...can he mind read now??

What does this add to the "People who can't play" thread? Anyhow, just for the record, it's at the rock bottom of my long list of things to moan about.

I totally agree. I think I know one of that player's chars as well. And probably had a similiar whispered conversation with him/her.
I'd like to add, however, that I don't think char thoughts should be expressed at all, either. Only actions should be expressed with the *action* indicators. Cantrians aren't mind readers so they should not know the thoughts of other chars. If it can't be expressed or implied verbally, in writing or through actions which can be seen then it should not be expressed.
I see chars going *thinks about how sad she is* instead of describing facial expressions or body language that would indicate that she is sad. Or she could even say, "I'm sad."
Also, there's the ever popular *looks the new girl in town up and down thinking about how much he'd like to get to know her" or some such.

Well said, I don't have anything else to contribute really, I'd have said something similar to this.

Expressing thoughts adds to the overall experience in my view. It gives insight into a character from an OOC perspective. After all, if you read a book that gave none of the thoughts of the characters you were reading about, wouldn't that be rather boring? So too would Cantr be. All talk and action with no thoughts makes for rather boring experience...and if someone says *He sighs, thinking about how sad he is* well, that sigh and the resulting expression say it all.

People can't mind read in real life, but they can interpret emotions by guaging someones words and actions.
That's how it should be in Cantr.

Well, agree or not, I won't stop expressing thoughts with my characters. I find it makes the game a whole lot more interesting. And remember, we can't "see" anything. lol. Don't you want insight into the inner-workings of the characters of this game? I mean, isn't that why so many discussions degenerate into long-drawn-out stories of who thought what and why someone did something?

If you don't want someone to read your thoughts, don't project them astrally. People get confused.
It isn't about reading the thoughts...of course they are supposed to.
However, they might comment on the EMOTION in them but certainly not say.
"Well for one, I think blah blah blah and for two I think blah blah blah" as though responding to the two things you said in your THOUGHTS.

books differ from Cantr in that events are usually expressed from a narrative point of view. Either as second person (told by a narrator "you think about"), or a third person using a narrator's or character's voice.
Cantr is played from a character's point of view (third person character's point of view), so you know their feelings, but can't tell how others are feeling without mind reading, which is why I don't include thoughts/emotions except where can be seen/implied.

How can they comment on the emotion in something they can't percieve?
Any thoughts, statement of thought, or anything not an action that I see in stars I ignore because my character can't percieve it, let alone comment on it

But that's the thing. The only reason he could respond to what you "said" in your thoughts is because you were the one that put them there to begin with. It only causes confusion. I detest "astrally projected" (nice term, west) thoughts a lot more than OOC convos.

Including thoughts is as natural to me as breathing. I don't think there is a "right" or "wrong" way there.
But back to the original topic: SHEESH!!!!!!!!!
So it might be against the CR to have a charrie leave because you simply CANNOT STAND a player OOC, but I would rather have let my character die than deal w/ that idiot for one more minute. I couldn't stand it one moment longer. At least this way my character might have a chance at life.

I would much rather see someone say *furrows his brow* than *a confused look falls upon his face*
You should interpret the emotions from their actions. Like in real life.

Okay, I don't get that. What is wrong with a "confused" look? We all know what confused looks like...hard to describe and furrowing the brow alone could mean ANY NUMBER of things....from anger to confusion to sullenness etc. Confusion involves other expressions than just a brow that are hard to state.
