So, this was random?
No. It was part of something that I am doing, and I thought it only fair to tell you.
And might I add that the word "RANDOM" is misuesed and grossly overused.
Maybe overused, but not misused, as this came from nowhere that I knew of and I assumed it to be random.

Random
-Of or relating to an event in which all outcomes are equally likely, as in the testing of a blood sample for the presence of a substance.
-Of or relating to a type of circumstance or event that is described by a probability distribution.
-Having no specific pattern, purpose, or objective
Random does not mean what you say it does. And even if it did, under your definition, what I did is not "Random", as it came from somewhere, that being me.
Nowdays, you children use random as a substitute for odd or weird, out of the ordinary, et cetra et cetra.
You lose! Bwahaha!

In the context of the forum, it seems to me that the most charitable interpretation of your 'random' posts is "Having no specific pattern, purpose, or objective".
Certainly their content is at best random.
Random things do come from somewhere, as does everything. People are fine generators of good near-randomness at least.

Random is picking a card at random or flipping a coin.
If a person intentionally says (or writes, for example, on an internet forum) something odd or seemingly without purpose, it is not in fact random. It has a purpose, that being to make people laugh, be popular, buy into the whole glorified weirdness shit.
Therefore, it has a purpose, and is not random.
In fact, one could argue that absolutly nothing is random. If someone punches a whole in drywall for seemingly no reason, perhaps there is in fact a reason. Perhaps they just wanted to.
The result of a coin flip is in fact not random. It depends on a number of factors (gravity, location, amount of force, ect.)
I heard someone say a few day ago "Life is random."
No it is not.
Unpredictable, perhaps to a degree.
But random, no.
And I say again, random does not imply unexepected, odd, unpredictable, weird, funny, witty, or anything of that nature.
By the way, someone asked me on this internet site why I put everything I write on a different line a few spaces apart.
I could not find the thread again to reply, so I will do it here.
I do not know why I do that.
Nor do I care.
Nor should you.
Anyhow.

Ah, so you're a determinist. A fair life philosophy. One that I personally buy into, but I think you overstep your bounds when you say that life is not random. I would argue that chaos (randomness) is very real and present in life. It is one of many (and i do mean many) determining factors that dictate action. The fact that you say that life is "unpredictable, perhaps to a degree" is because chaos theory does in fact exist.
Life is, among other things, random. Predictable, to a degree.

Yet isn't flipping a coin unpredictable?
And yes, your posts sometimes have no specific pattern (example: not sticking to the theme of the thread) therefore making it random.

Not to get all up in your grill but using a word in it's own definition is kind of pointless.
Language evolves and I doubt that it has ever taken bigger evolutionary leaps than in the age of the internet. A word means what people understand it to mean. If you don't understand then you're falling behind.
The Urban Dictionary is a useful resource. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.p ... random&r=f

I usually only venture into the trenches on Christmas, in case someone's thought to bring a soccer ball. Ah well..
Yankee was used by the Brits to refer to the colonists long before it was used by US Southerners to refer to US Northerners. It has several meanings, which are all negative, including excrement. I'm glad to not see names like pom, kraut, cloggy, etc., in this forum, and would be glad to see yankee not used either.
And by the way, do ya'll actually call us Yankees outside the States? That's kind of cool. I didn't realize the word was actually used to refer to all of us. It's supposed to be a North vs. South thing in case you cared, which I doubt you do up on your soap box. I understand that breathtaking ignorance of other people's cultures isn't a uniquely American characteristic.

No. Flipping a coin could be predicted correctly, given the popular mathmatical calculations and specifications, et cetra.
It could be done.
In fact, you don't even need that.

There, I just predicted it.
The result, that is.
