Replace Lock?

I was on a boat with some other players. They took another boat to shore (our boat was too big to dock). They were supposed to come back in 3 days. After a week, runing low on food, I sailed to a place where I can dock. The boat has a lock but I have no key. Is there a way to install a new lock or to get another key?

I am no programmer, but I will answer you from player experience....

If you do not have the key and the lock is locked, you won't be able to get off the boat without a crowbar or someone in the harbour with a crowbar.

If you do not have the key and the lock is unlocked, then your boat will be easily boarded and stolen if you get out of it. There is no way to lock a boat/car/bike that already has a unlocked lock on it. There is no way to break an unlocked lock and replace it.

To make a long story short, your boat can not be secured unless you stay on it. I suggest you enter town, beg for food and return to your boat, waiting for a response.

It's unlocked so at least I won't starve to death. I assumed that was the case but I didn't know.
