Character Descriptions

Postby Surly » Mon Oct 20, 2003 10:59 am

I think it would be a good idea if it were possible to write a short description of your character, or at least answer a short questionnaire.

This would enable people to see "A man in his twenties, dressed like a noble. He seems to have a charming nature and and a perceptable arrogance. He is digging for stone"

rather than "A man in his twenties. He is digging for stone"

I feel this would make it easier to establish certain characters. I have been trying to establish a Machiavellian Prince type :) , but this is very hard as I only have 200 minutes for all my 8 characters. I would need to talk to everyone to establish my character realistically. :(

It would also make guards more obvious if their description says "heavily armoured, in the colours of the state". Also bandits & thieves would be slightly more obvious (or less obvious, either way) if their descriptions could say things like "dressed in black" or "wielding a sabre, dressed in normal clothing"

Descriptions would enable real Role-Players to have more detailed characters.

Yeah this has been an ongoing discussion for quite a while, Ilithar.

We've been wanting to see something like it for quite a while but it hasn't happened yet...at times it was because of bandwidth issues, now I'm not sure what the reason is. But i'm sure someone here does.

Such a description would be based upon things that can be seen, physical description, rather than character. Clothing is in the piepline and should affect the description, saying what you are wearing etc when it's programmed in.

so therefore: "she seems strong, and is in her twenties. And is naked. "

what do we do for people without clothes?

Clothing would certainly help. It would also enable uses for cotton, and dyes. A whole new industry could spring up. Hopefully not too expensive, as my Prince make look and sound rich, but is currently a bit of a pauper!

well, currently some of the machines needed to make clothes need steel, which I think is very wrong, there should be ways of making clothes without using steel

Using hide, and a bone needle for example. Of course, bone isn't a resource yet as far as I can tell, but I was just giving an example. You'd also need a scissors or a knife of some sort, or maybe just sharp teeth o.o

One of my characters hade a brave struggle with an alligator...how disappointed he got when he finally killed it and didn't get anything to show as a trophy

But to take the topic back to Descriptions...I would really like to see this soon. Especially how people are armed and such, but also how they look in general...because then you can more easily ask for people you are trying to track down.

Instead of "have you seen a man in his twenties" you should be able to ask for "have you seen a muscular man with black hair and a scar on his left cheek"...or something of the likes :)
