Personally I also dislike how it's like "cotton skirt - a cotton skirt that [...]" because again, information that's already there explicitly.

That said, I am so glad everyone's making custom descriptions so don't mind me.

Some of us aren't as delightfully colorful as you, Wiro. Our own lack of creativity forces us into the mundane :P

That's not fair, I literally just mean starting the description with a/an. I wouldn't dare criticise anyone's descriptions for their quality, they're all fantastic. If you make an effort you've already won in my book. It's just when you have all these things and they all start with "a this" "a that" it makes me gloss over it which wouldn't have happened if it was dropped. The redundancy, is all... gah.
prometheus wrote:I admit to being guilty of that, but it's usually because I don't know how else to start a description. It feels weird to just jump in and be like "the hem reaches over the head and is made of paisley cloth" when "a skirt made of paisley cloth with a hem reaching over the head" flows so much better, descriptively, in my mind. Especially if it's very descriptive, it has like an ebb and flow, you know?

I suppose I'm exactly the opposite of this. The one prometheus thinks is awkward sounds perfect to me.

*See Wiro hates a/an descript starts*
*Find character to put near Wiro's*
*Start all descriptions with the/these*
*Yay*

Eaten by a hungry newspawn. Possibly also folded into an intricate pair of origami pants. Serves you right for not feeding or clothing them. Tsk.

Well that was really weird but I'll go ahead and repost.

I was just saying that I'll usually include the name of the item, but that it's the first thing to go when I run into the character limit. Even if lately I've tried to avoid doing that. I've noticed that when somebody's wearing a full set of heavily described clothes I tend to just skim past them...same goes for big fat paragraph of character description...which I'm assuming is the opposite effect they were going for. Sometimes it really is a case of less being more.

I've had a few posts mysteriously vanish as well. By chance, did someone PM you a message that quoted the comment?

PM whichever department moderates the forum. It was probably removed for a reason.

I figured it out. And no, I knew it wasn't removed by a mod since it was pretty much exactly what I posted above.

But so this is on topic here's another clothes related annoyance for the annoyance thread: When people wear generic clothes but then go into detail about them in their character description. It's like...no, bad! So lazy! Custom item descriptions exist for a reason.

Maybe they had it in the description before they were customizable. Or they didn't have the tools to do it. Or they didn't even know it was possible (that happened with one of my chars and non-clothes, I just realized how to change them and no way I'll get the things to do it shortly.)

Things that can be contradicted by future implementations. Mechanics always trump RP, so if your character puts in their description that they have a tattoo, and tattoos are later implemented, they would need to get a real tattoo to justify the description. The best way to judge if something will be implemented or not would be to check the suggestions forum (be sure to do a search first before posting again). If you do choose to risk descriptions like tattoos, etc, the gaining of said attributes should be role-played, not magically endowed.

In this case it's not tattoos but clothes. If you don't update your descriptions you risk getting reported for breaking the rules.

When you put it like that.. It's just depressing looking :(

The English graph is pretty similar but I will say we seem to have several active new & returning players that are making things seem busy these days.

I wasn't exactly talking about clothes but things... But I think it's slightly unfair, mostly because no everybody has the possibility to make labels, for instance, and not as fast as you would like. After like 40 cantr years rol playing that your something is like that, magically making it different just because you haven't access to rice isn't nice neither.
