Which mine are often guilty of, according to my work schedule, etc. I guess it's in-character, to a degree, but it's annoying that it's a flaw in my chars that I can't fix.
So some are being told (in game) to play more often, and some to play less often. Cantr characters are hard to please!

If people can't be awake often or at least consistently, my chars find it hard to rely on them and may not include them as much in certain things, but it really only ever becomes something that bothers them on a personal level when the sleepy char who is fully aware in advance that they'll be sleepy for long periods has placed themselves in a position where people are forced to rely on them. The only one who can handle a trade, or set up a job or get into storage, or all the usual sleepy leader complaints.

That, or if their only contribution those few times they are awake is whining or scolding other characters (and sometimes the players directly) for being more active than they are.

Yeah, that makes sense. if they're gone for days at a time, it just gets in other people's way. For me, I at least log in once a day. Of course, I didn't used to be this busy, so my positions of relative power in places were more well-deserved in the past.

I'll put up with the clothes that should, but don't interfere. I'll put up with disabilities that only come into effect when it's convenient. I'll put up with personal descriptions, mentioning boobs, bum, rippling muscles, waifish figures, piercing eyes, etc. I'll put up with pages of dull blather, or whispers. All these, I'll accept as different ways of playing.

But make me wait for days for a simple yes or no, and you're on my shitlist, regardless of what title you wear.

There's a character in one town I'm currently in who only wakes up to frown at people who are too noisy or whisper too much. That's it. I have never seen this character do a single thing except frown at other people - they've never introduced themselves, or said anything, or done anything else but quietly work and frown at people.

Frown at him for frowning. Then he'll frown at you for being awake. Then you frown at him again for frowning. Let the cycle never end.

A COMPLETELY ACCEPTABLE RISK.

Ugh. What a place. Leave with speed and never look back.

Why is your character even there, then, is the real question. Do they not have at the very least, legs?

Because knowing that in other towns life is easier and more enjoyable is OOC knowledge? And your character may be unable to work up the nerve to start a lonely life somewhere in wilderness. *shrugs*

"OOC knowledge" isn't a good reason to stay there, though. I had a character walk out of his spawn town after two days, because of the laws there, only to find empty town after empty town. At the time, I legitimately had no idea what "normal" laws would be considered for towns anyway. Didn't matter, they were still a dealbreaker. During that time, someone had come through looking to trade, and mentioned trading in another town, giving the impression that the place wasn't completely desolate, but apparently I picked precisely the wrong direction from civilization.

The opposite could also be considered OOC influence, you know. The assumption that places will be empty. Your character doesn't have any reason to assume other places are inhabited? They don't have any reason to assume they're abandoned, either. If they have access to a map, it's going to list the names of a lot of cities, but it's not going to say how many people currently live in each one.

If a town is so terrible that your character legitimately fears for their life if they step even the slightest bit out of line, I would generally consider this a perfectly valid reason to walk away. There comes a point when, even if IC you don't know some other place in particular might be better, it's hard to get worse short of just plain killing you. (Most usually, though, my characters walk away from their spawn towns because they were bored.)

Sometimes newspawns aren't allowed to leave.

Yeah, y'know, that's the sort of town I'd try to get out of fastest. :P Because to hell with that. They want slave labor. What are they going to do, lock you in a workshop or kill you on the road? That's nothing but institutionalized slavery.

Oh, sounds like a lovely town. Are they at least allowed to breathe? Anyway, I suppose that you can still have some fun playing in such a town. You can test how far you can push them before they actually kill you.
