Include Hide on Targes

Postby TheTheorist » Thu Oct 28, 2004 2:16 pm

As people pick faults with realism I think you should add hide to Targe's. A friend of mine ordered an authentic copy from Scotland and it has hide on the back, and a spike on the front! Just a suggestion! :D

If we're going there, and I think we shouldn't...I seriously doubt that a shield made of pure iron ever existed. You'd at least use something else for the grips.

A pure iron shield does exsist but it is rivited to the armour, not really that much good. A simple wooden/leather one would give more protection simply due to being easier to move into postition and defend with.

Tower shields could be all iron or all wood, the kind placed in the ground to defend archers when reloading.

Noooooo....
Well, maybe for the targe. Don't hurt the iron shield, though. Not without a major reorganization.

I do think the iron shield, and others, should all require at least some hide...

Or maybe do more of that modular thing, make 'arm straps' or something for shiled - can be made of leather, hemp etc...

Yes, it's hard to chronicle things when they change them every month. Soon they'll make a modular bone needle: requires 20g small bones and 0g small hole.
