It annoys me when I wait around all morning to get to a computer so I can reply to a thread only to find that it and all related threads have been mysteriously swept away.

Seriously, what happened? :? Staff suddenly doesn't want our opinions anymore or what?

I had pretty much all positive things to say too. Oh well.

I think she's talking about the surveys about all the departments.

It was taken down because there was disagreement about the way the threads and polls were presented, but hopefully in the near future we can have another way to have people give their suggestions. And of course you can always send a message to the departments at any time by going to the link at the bottom of the player page.

Okay, I just saw earlier that morning someone had deleted a post and was wondering if there was some drama. Or if it was another one of those situations where people were making a bunch of troll votes but not actually posting anything. Either way it didn't seem like a good reason to sweep entire threads under the rug.

Hope to see them up again in some form or another sometime. Though it's always seemed to me that a big chunk of the posters here are already either staff or former staff, or otherwise more dedicated players...any kind of poll or discussion on a forum about anything at all probably isn't going to get a general sampling of the player base.

How if you don't have a crowbar, you're basically just so screwed over, there's no hope for you. I've had a character trapped in a cabin of a ship, held captive, tortured and nearly murdered on multiple occasions, and there is -nothing- you can do to free the character. You can't even alert others of your captivity, as they can't hear the knocking from the harbor.

And even if they did let you go, chances are you're still dead, running isn't an option since they can easily just follow you, or drag you away again if they're much stronger than average.

Sorry to hear that. :(

Kudos to you for putting up with it so long though. I probably would have started starving that character by now if PD-inflicted heart attack wasn't a possible. It's always been unrealistic and unfair how powerful locks are and it just ties in to the general brokenness of combat and dragging. There really is no middle ground if your captors aren't willing to negotiate, It's 'Have a crowbar? Use it. Don't have one? Oh then sorry, you're f***ed, game over.' All power over your own character is taken from you, other than killing them yourself.

I've thought for a long time the humble and ubiquitous stone hammer should be capable of breaking a lock, given enough time to use it without being interrupted.

The captor probably enjoys the interaction if it has lasted three months. If your character starts displaying increasing depression, they might be ready to let her go rather than risk having her die. I have a character who in the past kidnapped several people, and he never killed anyone who hadn't given up first, but one time he was ready to let someone go because she was too much work. Only she chose to stay instead.

I really don't understand that aspect of this game. When one of mine was captured (had a crowbar, but it can take so many days to succeed in using it, it wasn't even worth trying) and I did everything I could think of to get him back, so I could play him again, but the other player(s) didn't seem to want to allow me to have that. I had intended to just have that character sleep, stop checking on him and just get on with my life, but I thought maybe if I ramped up the sympatheticness enough, the player would cave. I have too much faith in humanity. I realize now that was a dumb thing to hope for.

if it were me, and I wasn't enjoying the interaction, (which I wouldn't be) I'd just turn all the filters off so the character would stop lighting up, and let whatever happens happen.

I remember reading about how some of the most infamous pirates in real life were known to never actually kill anyone... The ones who were good at their job could steal all the goods from a ship using fear and intimidation alone. If I'm remembering right, Blackbeard only killed people at the end of his life, in self defense.

Now see, what BosBaBe is going through right now? THAT is what annoys and puzzles me about Cantr and that I genuinely wish would never happen again. Everything else people complain about players/characters doing is petty nonsense by comparison.

This is easily the most popular thread on the forum, but I think that's just because it's always easy to find something to complain about if you try. It's pretty rare that anyone will post anything here that amounts to more than a mild annoyance.

BosBaBe's example is more a 'thing that REALLY infuriates you about Cantr' post. At the end of the day every other 'annoyance' really does pale next to the fact that someone can take away your a huge part of your entire reason to play the game on a whim, in an instant.

And it baffles me that after all this time there are still so many people who consider irreplacibly destroying all another player's hard work a good time. I wonder how its possible for any player who cares about their own characters to deliberatively inflict that kind of horrible feeling on another person in a game with few enough players as it is.

It always puzzles me that some players find something utterly outrageous when it happens to their own characters while showing no problem in doing it when the victim is played by someone else. As if the time and effort someone puts into their characters means more than what other players put. As if there were first class and second class characters.

I guess that the thing that annoys me the most about cantr is hypocrisy when taken out of character. It is definitely the thing that is making me say goodbye to the forums, at least for a while.

Take care all, keep on ranting when you feel like doing it, but please remember also to stop and smell the roses sometime (or something that sounds less stupidly mushy).

But saying that implies that us that complain about it have actually done those things. I once briefly tried, but I couldn't even get past holding them captive, I let them go and killed off my own character. I can also appreciate a well thought out captor, but someone that just does it for the shitting hell of it is annoying and upsetting, especially since it's been going on for so long.

There's also nothing stupid or mushy about getting upset over this happening to a character you care about. I'm not the only one who cares about what happens to my characters.
