Old Powers/New Powers
So who does everyone think are the new powers these days? Do any of the old powers still hold?
The Empire of Ladvicitavoi/The Alexian Empire, Siom, Krif, Seatown Forest, The Clans of Olipifirovash Forest, The Commonwealth are all powers that I consider to be old ones. Now Siom, Seatown Forest, the Clans are powers that I think still hold. Ladvicitavoi and its empire has definitely eclipsed since its crushing defeat in Brinks Forest against DoUrden Estates and the breaking apart of the empire into warring or in the least disagreeing factions. Since Maynard's death, Krif's hold on power seems to get looser and looser everyday. From what I have heard in game with my characters is that the MacGregor Clan has taken over Krif and most of the old leadership has been wiped out. The Commonwealth was a power to be matched under the orginal lords and ladies but now the newer lords and ladies can never agree on anything and the Commonwealth' outer territories has fallen to crime once more. I think it is only a matter of time that Blojt and the rest of the Commonwealth returns to Al-Abhol times where the bandit and the brigand held power over people. The Clans I would say have gained more power rather than lose any. They haven't expanded their territory but they have definitely expanded their influence over much more territory. And now with the Commonwealth falling apart at the seams, I think this gives the Clans a perfect opportunity to expand their influence even more. The Seatown Forest still hold much power and sway over the Krif/Drojf/Seatown Region but I think the MacGregor Clan is now calling the shots and the Forest has lost its influence over the MacGregors which might be why they have attacked and taken control of Krif because I don't think the Forest would have ever allowed such a thing. Siom still hold power but has backed a little off of the world. I do not believe they hold a garrison in Quillanoi anymore since the death of Commander Richard Lenseth and many of Siom's outer territories now are allowed to govern themselves and have their sheriffs and sheriff forces. It seems that Siom's new leadership is trying to consolidate their power in Siom rather than spreading out into the world. But don't get me wrong Siom is still quite powerful plus you would need to get through surrounding territories full of independent sheriffs and their forces, who are quite well armed mind you, before you ever get to Siom's sheriffs and their forces. Plus, I think, Siom has the only true naval force in the Cantr world.
I think newer powers that have popped up are Alenz Hills since Piers Anthony massacred Cantr City and laid claim to all of that territory. DoUrden Estates since their crushing victory over the Alexian Empire and their Grand Army. The MacGregors since Maily Yumm courted them into an alliance with Seatown Forest over the Second Krif Empire and them being included in the region unity. Plus if they have taken over Krif and defeated the former powers there then that really in my mind makes them the most powerful force currently in that region with Seatown Forest not to far behind.

WHAT?
Krif was taken over?
I did not know that. Wow.
Are you sure your data is right?
But the rest of that stuff provides a good analysis of Cantr Power, I think.

4 days ago the forest was rallying to defeate the invaders, I can't say what's happening now

I doubt that Krif info, but I don't know. If I did I couldn't say. But the MacGregors seemed weakening, not strengthening. Unless they did something really underhanded...
DoUrden may finally be on the upswing...winning against the Grand Army gave them even more resources, but really they were in decline from then on...
Siom is scary, but I don't think they've had any real enemies in a long time...at least, not that I've heard a squeak about. They semi-control a lot of ground, but I think if they had actual enemies they might take a quick beating. Or if some of those powerful outlyers decided that the old capital still has too much power.
I've heard some odd things on Nonirowk, but nothing specific. Is there anyone powerful outside of Karnon Forest there?

I might be mistaken, but I think that a very significant new power is developing that will suprise a lot of people. In fact, it may take another ten years to develop, and it may not be known for twenty or more years....But then watch out.....Mwwwaaaahahahahaha.
I think, therefore I think I am, I think

Have there been any good conspiracies that didn't cheat? I recall talk that the historical 'wizards' in the K-D-S region were using some OOC evil...

Krif is perfectly fine (As of 4 days ago, that is.) - so don't get your butthairs in a knot.
The Alexian Empire may be a total pancake, but they're trying hard to at least gain new citizens to help rebuild. And of course, espionage activities from rogue agent somewhere in there. Can't say much though, don't know much to say about it.
Siom, damnit. My character wants back in Siom, but friggen Captain Moris is no where to be seen! Whoever plays you Captain Moris, get your boats ass moving. I've been waiting for like, two game years, doing nothing, waiting... bleh.
I don't know of anything else.

My perspective:
I think the Mac Gregors will be a fading force in their region...they are obviously desperate and Gregors arrogance and very questionable actions will isolate them from the more peace loving towns.
Regarding the whole Seatown-Drojf-Krif region it is hard to predict the future, with all the conspiracies, pirate raids and old feuds.
Siom isn't efficiently coordinated anymore. A large town like that and getting a little iron is still a huge project...doesn't look good.
Zady seems to be the only government person that is active, and even she doesn't do that much as far as I know.
The Clans (or rather, the Clan) are/is probably stronger than ever and I wouldn't be surprised if they expand more aggressively within a near future.
The Commonwealth is still a power to be reckoned with, but I'm not sure how loyal the different areas would be to each other in case of a war.
As for future powers:
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Sjoftich and it's positive policy of preserving life and helping people out (influenced from the Order of the Kept) may very well be a future power. They attract good and ambitious people in the cause, people feel safe, and they are close to many strategic resources as well as the sea.

Truthfully, I don't think there are any new powers picking up from the old, the closest that come to it is Karnon forest (which isn't a power in itself but only if you consider the collective power of all related groups in the forest) and DoUrden, which if they don't turn into a major power it'll be because of poor leadership since I know for a fact (just from what they captured from Lad) they have the weapons and vehicles to do whatever they want and there is little anyone in that region would be able to do about it. Other then those two I don't see any new powers in the game and even those two are tiny compared to the historical limits of power that Lad and Siom once held. The Olip clans may do something, but I think they've lost some important people lately judgeing from a couple boats I've found adrift, one of which will now be added to the mounting arsenal of another place I prefer not to name just yet.
I want to add one thing about Siom. The numerous independent states springing up in the forests around that town is what the original leaders of Siom (c. 290) hoped for in that region. Siom never "claimed" any place other then Siom but merely offered security to anyone in the region who wanted or needed it and only originaly stationed people along the route to the mountains for iron to protect that trade route, the effect of that is that the Siom region has become something akin to a multi area Karnon forest.

Siom isn't like it used to be. Its different now. I don't think it's all that powerful. Since Steve Kardos, Alice Cooper, Liarra Annora, ...ect....all the big heads fell asleep then Stabber stan stepping down. *shakes head* Bad move stan. Zady is trying to keep up to what used to be but she is having a hard time since its mostly her and michael doing the work and everything getting ransacked..
Poor guys. Hopefully she will get more help in the future *nudges steve, stan, olga, liarra, and the other big heads awake*

I think what the whole rest of the KDS region THINKS the Mac Gregors are like and what the Mac Gregors are actually like is an interesting dichotomy.
Krif: OMG teh MacGriggors is attacking!!1111
Mac Gregors: I say, what was that?
Krif: You ain't gonna 'tack us, is you?! we should kill you just in case
Mac Gregors: wait, what?
Krif: You said you wanted to kill us all!
Mac Gregors: Go back a bit...you've lost us.
Gregor Mac Gregor: I'm really pissed
Krif: I just pissed meself.

I don't think the people of Krif are afraid of the Mac Gregors...and I doubt they would be able to occupy Krif even if they made an all out attack.
If Gregor wasn't an old pal of the Rangers he would have been dealt with much harder...but I don't think that all effects of his little speech of madness have been played out yet.

Power flows from the...uh...blade of a sabre. Or the pointy bit of a crossbow.Colonel wrote:A new power will be coming in the near future and this people will not need bows or sabres. You will see.
Without weapons, you can't have power (well, locked buildings will do it if no one has a crowbar, but that's not a very safe aproach.) Weapons someone else wields for you can do it, but ultimately all the immediate power is embodied in the weapons...
