It's not surprising that you see yourselves described here, because this topic tends to alternate between bashing one roleplaying style one week, and its complete opposite the next.

Re: Things that annoy or puzzle you about Cantr
I just don't find a dichotomy there. Some people are able to say a lot in one line and make things happen, or a story advance, change and draw you in; others use a long paragraph to convey nothing at all. And there's one-line posts that don't add much and paragraphs that add a lot. To each their own, I guess. It'd be boring if we all do the same and like the same.
I don't see it as a matter of one style being better than the other: I'm fine with both options and will skim over both if not interested, no matter how short, long or good written they are, as I asume people will do with my posts.
There's that sensation... "I don't know where we went wrong, but the feeling's gone and I just can't get it back". It's not the game, I think, but the players since it is us who make the game. The player base has changed and some of us do too. Different personal situations, different routine, weariness... It saddens me a bit that you don't enjoy it at all anymore, since it's supposedly why we all are here after all.
I don't know if it is that I'm missing too many former players or that I'm not able to really get interested in most of stuff lately and definitely not in the mood to make many things happen myself. Maybe I'm just becoming selfish with my spare time and just don't want to devote it to interactions that don't interest me so I focus my scarce interest in those few characters and players that I really enjoy, since create and advance stories feels hard for me of late and one or two posts per day, at most, is all that I am ready to give right now.
To think that now I understand Echo and the joy of simming...

Honestly, I find myself annoyed to hear people saying they won't RP with someone without a description. 1)as said previously, char descriptions didn't always exist, and 2)everyone was perfectly fine deducing char appearance based on RP for a decade before that.
Which brings me to address the second complaint being discussed here about people with minimal emotes and short answers.
Doug, you already know this, but I'll say it again. Doug is one of the most fantastic RPers I've ever had the pleasure of interacting with IG. And yes, he does have minimal emotes and short answers. But somehow, he still manages to convey absolutely wonderful, intricate, complex personalities while being guilty of that particular behaviour.
This elitist attitude is frankly shameful, and obviously sucking the enjoyment of the game and community out for people who just aren't into, or comfortable with, doing their descriptions, or RP in a way different than what you folks think is "right" or "enjoyable" or whatever the hell the word is you want to call it. You're counterproductive to an inclusive community when you say such ridiculously elitist comments. You know what makes for a good PBBRPG? People staying.

This....I absolutely agree with this, with everything Reb has said. And I do have to say that lately it has been sucking the enjoyment out of the game for me personally. My interactions in game right now are minimal and I have a very hard time lately even logging in. And Doug is definitely one of the best rp'ers I've run across as well.

+3 to Rebma's rant. If you don't like something, don't buy it, but that feeling of inflicting your ways on others...
Edit to add: @Mitch79 I'm going to bite your fingertips if I must. You should be even forced to rp. By law.

Re: Things that annoy or puzzle you about Cantr
Cantr isn't the same game it was all those years ago.
Don't get me wrong, I do still enjoy it, but it doesn't have that same feeling to it that it once had. A lot of the challenge is gone, and the fear of dying is nowhere near what it once was. I think because of this, people have shifted from playing one way, to adapting to this newer, less challenging way.
There are barely any threats to speak of, and because of that, self made drama is becoming prevalent. To support this drama centered playstyle, more elaborate RP is generated and it becomes a snowball effect.
I think the solution is simple.
Me must nuke Doryiskom.
Not really a real solution, but I really hate that town and wish it would sink into the sea

Gabriella and Aiden thought it was a grand idea way back when, and I still support them 100%

One of my chars is on it if he ever gets out of jail. The other would if she found out about it.

Re: Things that annoy or puzzle you about Cantr
The game needs more conflict, but in a world where 95% of the characters are goody-two-shoes, how do you even recruit a dastardly band without having Mitch79 being in charge of it? I've been very tempted to play a bad guy and inject some -real- drama into the game, but odds are I'll be exposed before I make 30 and it'll be a waste of time. I've had two characters so far that had serious plans to put a world of hurt down on people, but ran into two problems: 1) for what? and 2) they met girls. Conflict doesn't exist because there's no reason for it. There are no haves and have nots. There is no scarcity. There is no politics. There are no ideologies.
Any bad guy will be a bad guy because they like to be bad, and that doesn't sit well with the player base.

I know some dont like the voilence in the game but I agree with Doug that some is needed. I would love a full out war between Islands (or language groups). I currently have two charries that could very easily turn "evil" but I'm not forcing it. But if something else happens to cause it so be it. I also have a third that is going to cause trouble but he is young and you can't do much with bone and a stack of potatoes

I have seen many amazing characters with huge potential... That were absorbed... and ruined by.. 'the clique'.

Perhaps Yugo was on to something on day 3026.

No, that was just pointless. Characters need to die for a reason.

Re: Things that annoy or puzzle you about Cantr
I hardly use emotes anymore. Mostly my characters just talk. I think I can express a personality through talking without a need for facial expressions or body language. I hardly use those in real life, so why should my characters be any different. I have one character who's very excitable and might squeal a lot and hug people and stuff like that, but the rest are more controlled.

Though I guess alone it's hard but, someones gotta be bad, yes?
