Re: Things that annoy or puzzle you about Cantr
My youngest character is 24 and was left to look after a town. No keys, no weapons, only access to resources left in unlocked buildings.

I should have one of my leaders give out something free... hmm. *Starts rolling up some rice paper and hemp.* Yeah, man.

In one town I know, the leaders give free crowns of roses to people.

A MILLION. FREAKING. TIMES. Is it really so hard to provide some roleplay or closure before just dropping that on everyone? And it just happened to my character's friend too and it was so screwed up I had to walk away from the game because I was gonna cry... that's just not fair... he just died and left some very vulnerable people all alone in town to fend for themselves, and for no reason at all... no closure, no roleplay, no IC or OOC explanation that would have taken 30 seconds to type out.. just gone...
If you really need to cut back and know you'll be IC guilted into not dying, then sudden is the only option.

Re: Things that annoy or puzzle you about Cantr
I don't know, I was talking about it last night with Anicator. It feels like all the wonder and shimmer has left Cantr for me. I end up making new characters to try to find this shimmer again. There was nothing quite like starting and not knowing everything, going to a new town and feeling ecstatic because WOW, new places! But now, places feel too familiar, characters are all the same, it's like stepping into a horde of Mary Sue's and John Does. All with the same template. Even those that try to seem unique just look bloody generic to me. :C
And admittedly, some players just sucked the life out of me.
I'm tired of the happy-clappy characters. I'm tired of the cute ones, the attention seekers, the drama llama's, the innocent little girls/ sweet cutesy women that really just want to get screwed. Where are all the dark, sadistic characters that will come out of nowhere and kidnap you, torture you? Hell, threaten to kill my characters if they don't give you what you want, I'd love it. And for god sake, can people stop making it so damn near impossible for characters to get away with any of this? I want a case where the characters know they are NEVER going to be free again, where they become twisted and starved of human comfort that they seek it from the very person that took away their freedom in the first place. Hell, even some cannibals would be nice. Ever seen Hannibal the series? Why not do this? :/
And I want new worlds, it's convinced me to try and play a foreign language character. I want to find all these creatures the wiki talks about, but I can never find them. I want to see new islands. Maybe one day English players can head out that far and stop dying from boredom out there. Yes it's hard, I know it's hard, but we should try it. At least 30 people should head out on galleons/rakers, never to be seen again by their spawntowns.
One last thing, before I end off. I'm not only tired of the same generic people everywhere, but I'm tired of the generic towns. Christ almighty, since when in history has any town had the same template, the same rules for each, a mix of different races/appearances of people. I would die from happiness if I spawned in a Native Indian settlement so to say. Or even better, why not have an ancient Aztec community, with sacrifices to the Gods? I would happily sacrifice a character, or have one of my own sacrificed (well at least some of them). That would not be impossible to make! And everyone who'd spawn there would know to make their character look like these people, and if they don't want to, they'd be thrown out, simple as that, since they may not want to roleplay as an Aztec anyways.
I actually really like the above idea. New rules in a community, traditions, a whole new religion, strange buildings and customs, festivals...and Fu or one of the other less populated islands would be perfect. I know people can't set up stuff like that ooc, but if we could, I'd happily get a team together. >.<
So, end of rant. No more generic crap, let me see some ruthless psychos! Stop giving me that friendly smile when you really could care less. =.= I'd rather I saw just how little you cared, that would give me a nice warm fuzzy feeling inside and actually make me interested in your character.

That was an impressive posting. There should be more characters or even communities that go against the norm, but the problem is you tend to get killed if you do that.

Even when you do it subtle, everybody just *leaves*. It's sooo stupidly annoying.

It is interesting, people complain about the monotony of peace, yet they cry when their characters are slaughtered in a pirate raid. They want excitement, but not at the cost of their own characters expense.
I have to admit that I have had characters become more lenient than they should have become, mainly because there is a bit of guilt associated with killing off a character someone put time and effort in to. I am not saying that the guilt isn't there any longer, but neither is the holding back. Blood shall flow once again!

Re: Things that annoy or puzzle you about Cantr
I do dislike killing characters, and I think there are plenty of cruel things to do without killing a character. Especially now with NDS I can't imagine killing a character unless forced by another. I'm really happy with the near death state, actually. It's a shame I haven't gotten the chance to use it yet. None of my characters are particularly violent at the moment, though luckily I've found plenty of other ways to be mean, annoying or outright disgusting.

That's kind of funny. I'm losing part of that reluctance also. There's some guilt still, but lately I find easier to get "in the mind of the psycho". I still find that permadeath is one of the things that makes the game special, so I can't complain consistently when it's my own creation the one getting the "bad end". Although I guess I could become a whiner oocly with some friends for a couple of hours in one of those cases people talk about when there's not even a little bit of rp (guess that now NDS makes that less likely to happen?). Luckily I haven't meet that this far and the murderers I encountered were also awesome at creating an engaging atmosphere that in some cases makes you want to thank them.

I have one who would happily use that. And wait for the character to recover...then do it again....and again...and again...

The lack of RP during those violent encounters/death is what is ----really----- annoying. Very rarely have any of mine killed without any type of RP to end it. The times that I don't bother are when the other player tries to bring OOC into it, or when it becomes insulting (ie towards the player and not the character killing it).

Both puzzling and lightly annoying:
When visitors in a town of your English char speak your native language, and your char shouldn't be able to understand any of it...
