I guess my character who was there's pretty much given away to plenty of people who read my posts carefully and has met him so it probably wouldn't make much difference for me to say.

My character was in Doryiskom when a few Blackrocks visited, rude comments and death threats were exchanged and he stupidly got involved in the ensuing fight. I think ultimately his own cowardice went a long way towards not getting him killed in the end. I had to work with a lot of game mechanics I'd never explored before (combat, boats, healing, NDS), and Naedell scared me silly at the time (as in I kept having to step away from the computer and calm down) but not so much now.

Also really weird is the realisation that it was so early on in his life and lasted less than a day. Things sure can move fast in Cantr when they really get moving.

Guessing somethings OOC , but being unable to do or say anything IC . Just crossing fingers and hoping to be wrong. :(

+1 for this, too many times lately it seems, as well.

Ditto +10 - Shamefully obvious in some cases.

When somebody is interested in a resource or is trying to get somewhere, and you don't know that the actual character never heard of it, but you're pretty sure that either they suddenly took an interest in something that they shouldn't even know exists or, if you believe that chars spawn with preexisting knowledge of the world, suddenly took interest in that one rare, distant thing that probably wasn't ever called to their attention enough to spark such an interest.

When your characters vibrantly active fiancée suddenly walks into a back room and dies...

A MILLION. FREAKING. TIMES. Is it really so hard to provide some roleplay or closure before just dropping that on everyone? And it just happened to my character's friend too and it was so screwed up I had to walk away from the game because I was gonna cry... that's just not fair... he just died and left some very vulnerable people all alone in town to fend for themselves, and for no reason at all... no closure, no roleplay, no IC or OOC explanation that would have taken 30 seconds to type out.. just gone...

Sometimes I think dropping dead is the best way to RP a characters death. I've done both, had some drop dead, while others played out their death a little.

In RL, you don't always have someone pull you aside and say "Hey ... I think I'm about to die". Sometimes people just drop dead. The heart gives out and they're gone.

I had a character lose a close friend that way, just dropped dead. OOC I wished they had of given me a heads up (I even messaged them asking why they didn't :) ), but for IC purposes, it was really raw, and the emotions were strong. That day changed his life forever ... unfortunately, not for the better, his life took a wicked down turn after that incident and he ended up dead within a Cantr year or two, but it made for an interesting RP experience, playing out the sudden death.

I left Cantr a good while ago, and I think I tried to strike a balance between just dropping dead and playing my chars (8 in total) out with illness... depression or whatever seemed to fit.
There were OOC 'mentionings' with people I know fairly well OOC too, but this didn't influence the IC at all.

It's very hard to kill off your chars, but yes... it is also very hard to have a char just left like that. It's all the harder when you learn of the people who it effected in game, but only after the death.
The game is permanent, people's rl requirements aren't, unfortunately.

One of mine just had someone they care(d) about die as well. Luckily, it wasn't a total shock, there was some conversation of heart problems, but certainly didn't expect it this quickly.

I can see this possibly/maybe happening to mine.

Sometimes it is that hard. As hard or unfair as it may seem, more times than not, the player has a reason for doing it like that. I have unsubbed twice since playing Cantr, and both were sudden and due to things being outside my control. You may think it is hard on you, but it isn't exactly easy on the player, either.

This... and so, for me... I guess it's definitely karma. Some of mine have had very sudden twists. Some roleplayed, some sneaked... due to RL more than anything. So I can't say it's the right or wrong way... and I agree that people can't know when a heart attack will get them...

But... still a shame because it was an awesome char, by an awesome player... and the only char that I'd ever proposed to. I guess my standards are ridiculously high..  Ha.

Go figure this would be something that bothers you.....hmmm.

We lost a good player today but due to real life that player had no choice with as busy as life became. She'll be missed and maybe someday she can make it back to us when things calm down. Keep in mind people that sometimes life gets busy enough theres just no time at all for a "decent rp" to get out of the game. Real life takes priority. So fair or not, it's life.

I so hope. Today really sucks.
