This is not about 'not doing things because someone doesn't like it'. There are several issues that mean that things can get very messy, so let's not undermine those issues. I won't expand on them as they have already been touched upon.

Also, what you describe, Shaderon, is done in game already. Have you never come across the families in the game? There are characters with 10 sisters and 5 brothers (yes, I'm exaggerating a bit, but it feels like it), calling people mummy/daddy, etc. If that's what they like, that's fine. I have two characters who have a child each. To me, it is a symbol of my chars' natural intuition/instinct for protecting those chars, and loving and nurturing them. Establishing a tie that goes beyond mere friendship... But like I said, this is RP'ed anyway, and I don't think anyone is suggesting that it shouldn't be (No, I'm not talking about the 'who's screwing who now' sort of families.).

I think child abuse is an interesting element for drama because it creates strong emotions, but since Cantr has existed 10+ years without it, there are enough other elements to create drama even without it. I like watching episodes of tv series that have child victims, or women. It just raises more emotions than if the victims are adult male. One exception is the episode of Six Feet Under where David gets abducted, that's the greatest example of an adult male victim in a tv series that raised strong emotions in me. The downside is I couldn't keep watching the series any more after that episode because it was so shocking.

Families ig rub me the wrong way, but it's probably just because the 'kids' are generally, well, annoying. To put it bluntly. Not that they can't be done in a way that doesn't make me roll my eyes, but it's rare that they are.
BUT if you have fun with it, then go ahead, I don't have to read it more than to just skim over it if it's going on in town. And heck, one or two of my characters have had kids in everything but getting called mom/dad. *shrug*

I think it's okay for people in their 20s to act like a child, but once they reach 30, they should start acting more like grown-ups, unless they are mentally retarded. Sometimes there are people who act like a child way up to their 50s, and that seems weird. I have a character, now in his early 30s, who spawned looking like he was about 13, and is now going through puberty. It's funny because no one understands what's happening (since most everyone else has gone through it before spawning).

It would definitely get tiresome fast. Try it once or twice and have fun with it. If everyone did it all the time, I think the older chars would go insane and start killing newspawns on sight.

A perfect example of this being tried in a game is faerytale online. New chars are brought into the game as newborns after two adults mate. Many don't mind playing along with the infant/toddler/child/adolescent phases, but more often you see players letting their newborns sleep until a certain age. One of this method's failures is the "birth queue". Out of boredom a couple months ago, I reactivated my account and hopped into the queue. I just checked and I'm still 27th in line to be allowed to play. And people complain about sometimes waiting 24hrs for their Cantr account to get approved!

A while back I witnessed a newspawn in a town where only two people lived. That's ok..that's normal, in my experience.

The weird part was that it happened while one of the characters was inside a building (and had been for a couple of cantr months) and the only other character was outside. And, the character inside the building received the usual message you get when it happens outdoors.

Oh, and both characters sleep constantly, so weren't active at all.

I didn't know, until then, that it was possible for a newspawn to appear in an area that only had one person outside.

People inside and in vehicles also count towards attracting spawns. Even if you're on a ship in the harbor, you can still cause someone to spawn.

Whether or not a char is active doesn't affect its chance to get a newspawn either. There's a particular town that has/had a history of feeding sleepers. If it was done purposely to attract newspawns or some other reason, I've no idea. But it worked very well. Every time I decide to start a new char, I cross my fingers that I don't end up there.

I think I know exactly the town you mean.

My character found all the zombies extremely unsettling.

When you come across a character that starts speaking wonders about one of your deceased ones and you try hard to change the subject without being rude... I feel so awkward!

I generally detach myself pretty good from my living chars, but I've found it's more difficult for me with dead ones. I can't help the feeling that I'm reading someone else's mail or something like that.

More on the "annoying" line... The word "beautiful" or "attractive" used 5 times in a description. From an ooc point of view I have nothing against, I think, but my chars tend to have a mind of their own when it comes to what they find beautiful or not.

As a player that played before personal descriptions, I always judged beauty and attractiveness solely on a character's personality, and, for the most part, I still do today.

Hearing reports of people spawning with a name that you completely made up yourself. It was one thing when it was an uncommon but unoriginal name, annoying but possibly coincidental, but when it came from your own imagination...grrrrrrr.
