Thinking about quitting.....

I've been thinking about quitting. If that's still what this thread is about. When I find my character bullied over the tiniest little thing for no reason, and the game is no longer fun, that big X starts to look a lot more tempting. I feel bad because I know I have characters that others depend on. But I just can't handle everyone being so sadistic. It's disheartening.

Not to be pessimistic, but when I see that, I usually think someone got their character into trouble, and they can't handle the consequences, so they must quit in order to protest, or some such thing.

It's more like, there is no trouble, but every time certain people open their mouth, they get attacked because they spoke up, even if it's just the dumbest thing to be arguing about. It's like playing Cantr with my baby brothers or something, where every word is some great offense to everyone for no apparent reason. Being yelled at when you yourself haven't taken an offensive tone to anyone, even trying to apologize for your ignorance. That sort of thing. In a world where you're born 20, how people can be so immature. It's just not always fun anymore.

There are some places that have very strict codes of conduct, and where death is a very possible outcome of breaking that conduct. I know I had a character once who had been killed for simply not being strong. I have had plenty die from back talking people in charge, and had one locked up for life for smiling at a woman.


If you find yourself with most of your characters in such societies, it will certainly make Cantr to look one sided, but I can tell you that there are many, many places where your characters can thrive by being themselves and where societies are not at all harsh.

I know who you play now, not that it matters. But s/he really just needs to deal with it and, for the time being, at least pretend to care. End of story. Moving along before we reveal too much IG info.

LOL none of my characters has to "pretend to care". They're my characters, thank you. It's me not dealing with it, not my character. Characters are fictional. Fictional. See, I'm a real person with a mind of my own, I live on this place called Earth that most of you seem to have forgotten about. And no I don't have to deal with it, so neither do my characters, as I do kind of control them don't I? I'm just saying it wouldn't have to be this way if people didn't start a fight over every little thing someone says. Which it always does, I see it in like every town. Someone makes the wrong face or says something while someone's grumpy and the whole town has a little war. It wasn't even that bad in the dark ages, this isn't realistic. It's a game people use to vent their frustrations on other people in a non-personal way. That's all it is. And it's not fun for the people who actually want to play.

No wonder I can only have one character, and that her lifespan's been so long already! Although I guess another one of the big giveaways should be that I didn't spawn her at 20. Wow. This is incredible. I've gotta check this out.

When it's actually roleplayed, yeah, it must be interesting. But when you're locked up in a jail 5 days after your spawning because of more than dubious reasons, and then totally forgotten there inside... it's not a nice change of pace. There's no pace at all. In fact... is quite discouraging. I'd love to rp this "harsh society" instead of just rotting away *shrugs* Meh.

Ooooh, well pardon me! Here I was wondering why everyone keeps claiming this game is based on reality! You starve if you don't eat and all that wonderful stuff that comes with magical fantasy land!

Anyway I didn't post here for other people's debates, I just wanted to state the facts. If people don't like them they can change them themselves. I'm not gonna candy-coat how I feel and what I see with my own eyes. I just don't want people to be surprised when ten characters suddenly drop dead. That's all. Not looking for feedback, I'm just announcing it and if it happens everyone knows why I felt that way.

Other side-effects of a post might include understanding, and disappointment that yet another player is thinking about pruning the game's numbers?
Just a thought, but this one seems, at least, to have been met with a mild hostility, and even apportioning blame?

Ten chars..? I think they will be a miss, and at the end of the day, I don't have one thing to say that would make all the reasons stated require any genuine rethink.

If you have problems with one character, get rid of that character instead of quitting your whole account. It wouldn't be fair towards other characters if they died over something completely unrelated.
