Very quiet here in the hospital. Other than the guards, I'm the only one working in the gigantic new building, which isn't yet completely open. And annoyingly, this is the first day where the electronic card swipes were activated, and no one thought to program my badge number into it, so I had to have a guard let me in to my own workplace!

(And no, I don't get paid for any day I don't work, holiday or no. I'm a contractor. On the other hand, I didn't know that "celebration" was a requirement for getting a paid holiday, Sunni. I don't know many people in the US who, for example engage in "Labor Day celebrations", yet still get a paid day off for it (again, not me, in any case))

Here the 26th is Boxing Day and an excuse for rampant consumerism. I spent my day holed up inside and avoiding people altogether.

@Pisc: If you mean "return the gifts you got for Christmas that you didn't want" (known elsewhere as Boxing Day), then sure.

I was in Orlando today, driving down Colonial Drive and I saw a building with a sign that said "Vega's cafe".

Not really what I meant. ;) Over here Christmas is considered a two day celebration (at least legally), so the 26th is simply the second day of Christmas. (Which also means that you wouldn't find an open shop to return your unwanted gifts to even if you tried very hard. ^^)
Pretty in pink.

Yes, you see, Snickie, in Spanish-speaking countries, the emergency services (fire, ambulance, etc.) have to work on the 25th, of course. But since those countries are 99% Catholic, everyone wants off for the day. So those service people celebrate on the 26th, and they call it... Police Navidad! *ducks the incoming bric-a-brac*

*grumble* E74 error on our 360.

Edit: Husbandface says we can get it fixed in a couple weeks!

I thought my kids were coming to my work today since they don't have school and I didn't have a sitter. In preparation for this, I packed the iPad and headed to work, but they went to a friends house instead. Now I can't work...I'm too distracted by the iPad and the ability to play cantr on something other than my phone while at work. Good for my characters, bad for the projects I'm working on. Lol

Religiously, Christmas lasts until Epiphany, which falls on January 6th, so there's 12 days of Christmas.

I hate all of those things except women. Does that make me hateful? Heh.

I had never heard of that until last year, when I was on the cruise and they still had Christmas decorations up until halfway through (the cruise was from 2 Jan to 8 or 9 Jan).
Where in the world did that "12 days" doctrine or tradition or whatever come from?

I'm sure there's some Biblical significance to the 12 days.

....

Care to cite it?

Edit: For clarification, I mean a Biblical citation.
