Well, bacon is technically cured, so the risk of illness from it is much lower than if you found raw beef in the lettuce. I should copy this whole exchange and send it to Wendy's corporate HQ - names changed to protect the innocent and all that.

Then there'd be a whole debacle and they'd demand that I'd reveal myself and then I'd lose my job and I really need to pay the bills. Plus, it's straight economics. Much cheap this way, and what the public don't know what hurt them. Plus plus, Corporate can always say they didn't know and don't condone, because even in their training videos they spend 90% of the time going on about how often you should change gloves.
Then again, they say everywhere (again, in the training videos too) that it's "fresh, never frozen beef". While technically true, it spends alot of time getting soggy and gross and bloody in the cooler and online.
And on the bacon bit, even if it's raw (completely uncooked) it's cured? How's that work?

Although, I gotta say, one of my managers is like, insane about going by the rules. Which is nice some times. At least it's consistent.
Keep in mind, though, I've only worked there like a month, some I've only seen like 20% of the picture.

Salt is a preservative so that might have something to do with it. Even though trichinosis is pretty much eliminated from American meat (FDA?); I still would not recommend uncooked bacon. Yuck! Fry it up! I am not sure on this, but I also think salt is acidic
.Using certain kinds of acids can create a chemical change in the food you are marinating causing the marinated food to undergo the changes similar to heat. The easiest example I can think of is Seviche (?) which is essentially raw fish that has been marinated in lime juice and other goodies. Some of the best I ever had was when I was vacationing in Costa Rica and the tour guides butchered a seabass right there (I think they called it 'corvina' there) and stuck strips of it in a brine to which I dont know all of the ingredients. Since I am a sushi eater, the thought of it 'being fresh caught didn't bother me.
Of course, Just like Doug...I could be talking out of my rear end.

No I don't think of it that way actually. Though I do hate the taste.

Its a totally different flavor Arenti, you never know as you might like it, especially when its that fresh. But for some, just the concept is repulsive. To each his own.

I do eat a bit of fish but not much. And I certainly don't want it to look like it has been a fish at one point.

I'm sure there is another motive behind that question lol.... I eat fishsticks but I don't like it that much. It has been a long time ago though. I much rather eat meat.
