Re: Make bronze makeable
We are currently leaning towards simply removing the phosphorus (and also the zinc) requirement for making bronze.
Another use for phosphorus will be found later (probably as fertilizer) so you won't have to throw it away.

Re: Make bronze makeable
I may be wrong but phosporus is very rare. What about removing just zinc?

What would be the point of leaving the rarest resource in the recipe?

Making in less rare of course. As I said before, phosphorus could be obtained from burned bones. That makes it very common actually, so the process should be not so efficient.

Re: Make bronze makeable
Well, we thought about this version, too, but removing the phosphorus completely seems like the better solution. I don't even know why it's in the recipe to be honest. Sure, there are some types of bronze that have a considerable phosphorus content, but I doubt that bronze age people would have had the means and knowledge to add it and it worked perfectly well without it for centuries.
Retaining phosphorus would serve no purpose except preserving the existing conditions.

I agree with knowledge of bronze age people.
I just like the idea of having use for these piles of bones in some places, that is why i defend keeping phosphrous.

Re: Make bronze makeable
Well, we definitely keep the resource and probably also implement the burning of bones, but we will have to find another use for phosphorus. Just keeping it in the bronze requirements for the sake of it doesn't seem like a good idea. As I mentioned, we can probably come up with a way to use phosphates as fertilizer.

One of my characters is going to be very unhappy if you make phosphorus useless. He spent a lot of time finding and mining it. Perhaps you would like to convert his remaining stock of phosphorus into diamonds or something else of value?

Re: Make bronze makeable
Here You go:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bone_meal
Bone meal could be obtained by crushing bones on stone table - around 70-80% of the initial resource. Then it could be boiled or burned to get phosphorus (very inefficient, probably 10-20%).
Bone meal is also food for animals. Maybe in the future, when animals could be tamed.
Last thing you can make from it is glue. No idea how to use it in Cantr :)

Super Glue! :) No need to use a trowel when building a stone or brick building ;)

Other uses:
Special glass used for sodium lamps
Bone-ash, calcium phosphate, is used in the production of fine china http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bone_china
Phosphoric acid made from elemental phosphorus is used in food applications such as some soda beverages.
Red phosphorus is essential for manufacturing matchbook strikers and flares... phosphorus sesquisulfide is used in heads of strike-anywhere matches.

Re: Make bronze makeable
So I guess it would be much more fun if we leave phosphorus in bronze requirements, just make it much easier to obtain.
