Dead Body Loot

Postby returner » Sun Feb 14, 2010 2:05 am

Cantrians are generally pretty cautious about giving out keys in cities because if the person dies and there are too many copies of the key, it's likely some random will get hold of it. This hinders society-building.

We also have complaints about the combat system and looting involved in it.

It is IMPOSSIBLE to take items out of one's inventory. You can take items from the ground, you can take items from a building, you can break a lock and take items that way.. but unless you KILL someone, you can't take their items.

This seems a bit black and white, and the transgression from LIFE to DEATH needs to be smoothed over.

So based on this, I suggest that when someone dies, it takes half a day for their 'loot' to drop on the ground.

This way, a leader's dead body can be dragged inside by the townspeople and a random newspawn has a lesser chance of running off with the belongings.

My reasoning for suggesting this is simple.. In one moment, it is impossible to touch the belongings of someone.. then as soon as they die, it's a free-for-all.

It might also discourage pirates.

returner I like the way you want to get discussions going by your points of view. I also like that you are thinking of ways to keep Cantr alive and kickin'. But this argument is flawed. Leaders dying is exciting! And if they die either they desreved it, slept to death (= deserved it), or they are stupid and deserved it. So... I must leave now cause I might go to Lake Tahoe! If I don't I will be back and pissed! thank you!

Heh, thanks.. that was a lovely post.

And yeah. I love picking up all the keys when they die, or if I have a newspawn character I love doing it.
But this suggestion was made when I had the whole 'let's make a better society simulator' train of thought.. so I dislike this idea now :P

Except what are you suggesting that the items appear x amount of time later so random newspawns can loot them then rather than right as they die. Yes townspeople could try and stay awake and pick them up but so will the people who want to steal them.

Also its not very realistic either, if you murder someone you can take all their stuff instantly in rl

Don't bring realism into it..

It's not very realistic that I can't grab things off someone while they're alive.

Alternate but similar suggestion:

Bodies can be stripped. Rather then EVERYTHING falling to the ground, it should stay on the corpses body (and you should be able to "add to container" or something, too) at which point they can be looted.

This AT LEAST makes less of a mess and means a bit more "ticks" unless there is a "loot all" type of option (which would then make most of the stuff drop due to weight issues, anyway).

An even BETTER option to "smooth over the death/life hump" would be the ability to somehow take things off of people who are still alive. (However this has been suggested a billion times before.)

This seems a bit black and white, and the transgression from LIFE to DEATH needs to be smoothed over.

It's the only part worth considering here. Knock-out was suggested few times before, but we will have to reconsider it maybe.

As I mentioned in the other thread, I'd like to see a drag like project that immobilizes the target and allows another person to access its inventory. Knockout as a result of a hit with a weapon seems unreliable and unnecessarily violent.
Pretty in pink.

We can't have items remain on corpses until burial projects are reversible.
