Let's put things straight. Some of you were making a big confusion. Me, and the topic starter spoke about "using the word", or the concept "game mechanics" - that's completly OOC.

You were saying that the "game mechanics" were IC, well...of course. But the point is that characters shouldnt be talking about it, at least not using the word "game". That is the OOC part of it.

You/they got an ((OOC: That's impossible, here is why.....))) and then they/him/whatever were killed.

No, I had it to begin with.

NOT against the rules, just in "poor taste". Shall I repeat myself again?

That was not the case.

The topic starter got a:

"character X said: That's impossible, here is why.....Game Mechanics.....blah ..blah....." and then his char was killed.

It's still not actually against the rules. That one player MIGHT need to be reminded the difference between IC and OOC but otherwise, still just "poor taste".

AND, unless you were there, that's not really how this reads.

It reads as an "(((OOC: That's impossible because game mechanics wont let it!))) *kills lying character* or "That's impossible because the vehicle I'm chasing can't fit on that road. *kills lying character*".

The OP was stating it "wasn't cool" that the character used game OOC knowledge of game mechanics to justify an IG action... which I personally find stupid as Cantr IS it's mechanics. Mechanics can't be argued with, avoided or dodged in any manner. RP, however, can.

That's not a CRB at all... and think of it like you pointed down a path that was a forest trail... and they were chasing a car.

AGAIN, nothing wrong... and even if it was Player says, "That's impassible because of game mechanics etc etc" the only thing "they did wrong" was omitting the OOC or they poorly RPed... neither is a CRB... or wrong... just "bad form".

As for the rest, I just can´t "read" the situation in the same way as Dudel.
It's not the same to say something with or without "OOC:" as a prefix. I'm just saying that.

Not saiyng it's ilegal, not saying it should be ilegal, just saying it's "not cool" and that I care for that. Sure it's flaw in RP and that's all I wanted to point out.

I don´t know how it "reads" but it sure is an OOC reference missused In-Game.

I agree with some points. It was most likely due to what Dudel says but -Omitting- "OOC" shouldn't be allowed. It's understandable that he might not have a clear explanation to give or if it was forgotten but we can't have people running around talking about game mechanics like that, IG="In Game" IC="In Character", without using OOC="Out Of Character".[/quote]

I have always found OOC to be a bit of an annoyance IG. But sometimes necessary. I mean if it can be done to one char (in whisper) it should. Otherwise, we have a forum. But sometimes IG OOC is okay

But when it's an OOC such as (OOC: sorry scratch that ... it was supposed to be a whisper .... or wrong char) That buggs me.... Just RP it...yeah it sucks...you let your secret out or now your char has a crazy spell but hey...better than OCC

I said that's impossible cuz van's can't travel down paths.

The character had driven vans before. Therefore, he knew what was up.

To tell you the truth I wasn't thinking about ooc info when I killed the person, I just knew what roads would be dark for a van and which weren't.

The line is fine, to say:

"Look a van cannot travel this road its too small"

is perfect IC, and all that.

TO say:

"Hey don't ya know, the game mechanics forbit a van to travel this road"

is against the rules.
