Selecting where you'll be redirected

Postby SekoETC » Sun Aug 16, 2009 11:21 am

When you start a repair project, you get redirected to the Activities page. That's good if you're planning to work on that project, but if you're setting up projects for someone else, you'll have to manually return to the Inventory page each time. If there was a drop-down menu that had all the main pages (Events, Inventory, Location, Vehicles&Buildings, Objects, People, Activities), that would reduce the number of unnecessary clicks. It would have a default redirect selected but you could change it. And not just for repair projects but a lot of things. When you're picking up that last item, you'd rather want to go to the vehicles and buildings page to put it in your building or vehicle instead of going back to the objects page. When you're done reading a note on the ground, you still get redirected in your inventory, where's the sense in that? Not to mention when you hit someone, if you're hitting a bunch of people you might want to get redirected to the people page, or if you are planning to escape then you'd go to the buildings and vehicles page or the location page.

I don't think a drop down menu (as I understand it) will save us any clicks. It's either clicking events in the dropdown, or clicking its tab so....

With some of these, even if you changed them it'd still be weird. Like the hitting. I like to see my damage after each one. Because I RP before and after each hit as well, even if it auto'd to the people page, people like me would have to be continually clicking to go to events. So the clicking is still there, just for another tab now...The note thing though, I totally agree. Redirect to objects at least lol.

The dropdown menu would be in the same form as what ever other thing you're doing on that page, like selecting how many hours to spend on a project or how hard you're going to hit. If you wanted to go to the events page after hitting someone, you wouldn't need to touch the dropdown menu at all because events page would be selected by default.

This would be useful, but wouldn't it require keeping this information stored for every character? Wouldn't that increase the DB load with every single click?

Umm, no, because the defaults would remain the same. If a person wanted to be redirected to some other page than the default, they would have to make a new selection each time. The redirect would only be in effect that one time.

That's pretty useless then. I can't be bothered to fiddle around with dropdown thingies. Much rather would I have it fixed to that decision. Perhaps through cookies? idk how that works.

Yes, locally storing the choice seems much better. If I have to click a drop down every time I do something (say, picking up lots of stuff), it's really the same as having to click an extra link anyway, and maybe even slower, considering you'd have to look for the destination in the box each time.
